Road to recovery: Cory Wharton, 31, shared the great news that his seven-month-old daughter Maya was taken off the ventilator and was able to feed her himself.
Wharton, who can be seen in the video leaning over her little girl to hold her bottle in place, turned her attention to thanking everyone for their kind words and prayers during this incredibly heartbreaking time for her family.
‘This girl is trending upwards and that’s what we wanted. And she just wanted to show you this video quickly. Let them know that her prayers were answered,’ she said as she looked directly into the camera, at times.
“I just want to say thanks guys and let’s continue this upward trajectory and we’ll be fine,” he added.
“So, I appreciate you guys, Maya is doing well and we’ll get through this,” the post ended, culminating in a kiss on the forehead.

Touching: Wharton also shared a close-up of him feeding Maya with the catchy chorus of The Temptations’ hit song My Girl (1964) playing in the background
In the clip’s caption, Wharton reiterated that “Maya is off a ventilator” and “she’s no longer intubated,” both of which are great signs of recovery.
Maya’s mom, Taylor Selfridge, also took to her Instagram page to update everyone on the good news.
‘She is very well today. We had to overcome a little rough patch, but now she looks amazing, ”the grateful mother confessed. ‘She extubated (breathing on her own), she awake, eating and trying to play. Just pain management and trying to get her off oxygen.
Later on Friday, Selfridge re-shared on Instagram that hospital staff today found Maya’s stuffed bunny that had been missing since surgery earlier this week.
“She was sad because she’ll see it in all her surgery/hospital pictures when she’s older, so she wanted to keep it,” the forever grateful mom shared.
Daddy love: The proud daddy finished the clip by giving Maya a sweet kiss on the forehead
Adorable: After eating from a bottle, Maya took a nap with the help of her teddy bear.
Rest: ‘Rest and more rest. I’m glad she loves the bear we got her,’ the reality star shared.
Wharton began her flurry of Instagram posts by sharing a close-up of Maya feeding him, while the catchy chorus of The Temptations’ hit song My Girl (1964) played in the background.
“I guess you’d say – What can make me feel this way? – My girl, my girl, my girl – Talking about my girl – My girl,” lead vocalist David Ruffin sang with help from his bandmates.
This appears to be the second open-heart surgery planned for Maya, who previously underwent surgery just days after she was born in June to correct her tricuspid atresia.
The congenital heart defect occurs when the heart’s tricuspid valve is underdeveloped, preventing oxygen-poor blood from being properly pumped to the lungs, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Mom’s relief: Maya’s mom, Taylor Selfridge, also shared the good news on her Instagram page, writing, “She’s doing great today” and that “we had to get through a little rough patch.”
Good news: Selfridge, 28, also revealed that Maya is ‘extubated (breathing on her own), awake, eating and trying to play’ in the short video clip he shared
Lost and found: Later on Friday, Selfridge took to Instagram again to reveal that hospital staff today found Maya’s stuffed bunny that had been missing since surgery earlier this week.
The encouraging updates on Friday came just a day after he sounded concerned in a clip, in which he tells his social media followers: “Maya is doing well, she’s not doing very well.”
In fact, a doctor had sedated her because her left lung had some fluid in it, making it difficult for her to breathe on her own.
But since then she has made great strides in the past 24 hours, allowing her to wean herself off the ventilator and eat from a bottle.
The couple had been anticipating this latest surgery for months, and along the way, they admitted that the anxiety level had been building.
“Can’t wait to get her heart fixed,” Wharton previously shared on Instagram. ‘Then we can move on from this chapter. Once again thank you all and I will keep you posted.
In addition to Maya, Wharton and Selfridge also share a two-year-old daughter, Mila. Wharton also shares his five-year-old daughter Ryder with her former partner, Cheyenne Floyd.
