Ted Lasso star Juno Temple returns to the big screen with a lead role in Venom 3

As Ted Lasso’s final season comes to a close, actress Juno Temple returns to the big screen.

The 33-year-old actress – who plays Keeley Jones in the popular Apple TV Plus series – has signed on to star in Sony’s superhero sequel Venom 3, via deadline.

The actress will reunite with Venom and Venom 2 star Tom Hardy in the sequel, who both starred in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.

No details have been given about the sequel’s plot, or which character Temple will play.

It’s not clear when production on the sequel could begin, or when Sony Pictures could release the sequel in theaters.

The first Venom movie was released in 2018, following Hardy’s character Eddie Brock, a journalist trying to expose the Life Foundation and its human trials on symbiotic life forms.

With the help of a disgruntled employee (Jenny Slate), he breaks into the research facility… where one of the symbiotes transfers itself to Brock, transforming him into Venom.

Unlike many of the other symbiotes found on Earth, Venom loves the planet and chooses to defend it, using Brock as his ship.

The film also starred Michelle Williams as Anne Weying and Riz Ahmed as Carlton Drake, with Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady aka Carnage introduced in a post-credits scene.

The first Venom was a surprise hit, opening to $80.5 million in October 2018, en route to $213.5 million domestically and $856 million worldwide on a $100 million budget.

The 2021 sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage followed Eddie as he tries to get his journalism career back on track by interviewing serial killer Cletus Kasady.

Cletus eventually becomes the host of the symbiote Carnage and escapes prison, sparking a confrontation between him and Venom.

The sequel opened to just over $90 million at the box office on its way to an identical domestic gross of $213.5 million…although it grossed only $293.3 million in foreign markets for $506.8 million worldwide with a budget of $110 million.

The sequel’s main shortcoming was a botched launch in China, where the first film had made $269.1 million.

While no official reason was given for Venom: Let There Be Carnage’s failure to secure a Chinese release, rumors indicated that two resurfaced 2012 interviews in which he used the derogatory term “Chinaman” were a reason were for the ‘ban’ of the sequel.

The third film will be directed by Kelly Marcel, who co-wrote both Venom films, from a script she co-wrote with Hardy.

Both Marcel and Hardy will also serve as producers, alongside Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal and Hutch Parker.

There’s no indication yet if other characters from both previous Venom movies will be returning.

Tom Hardy’s title character was also featured in a short post-credits scene from Spider-Man: No Way Home, indicating that Venom is now entrenched in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Temple returns to the small screen in the fifth season of FX’s Fargo, for which no premiere date has been set at this time.

She is also attached to star in Crooks with Lena Headey and Everest with Ewan McGregor, Sam Heughan and Mark Strong.
