Although Apple gave an early look at iOS 18 in June, the tech giant kept some of its features under wraps until its official release on Monday.
Now tech giants have discovered these hidden gems and hailed them as game-changing for the iPhone.
Thanks to a new app that gives users access to their login details, users will never have to click ‘Forgot Password’ again.
Other useful features include a QR code for sharing Wi-Fi passwords and the ability to transcribe voice memos.
Tech experts have found hidden gems in Apple’s new iOS 18, which launched shortly after the iPhone 16 this month
One feature is the Passwords App, which allows users to store their login details securely in one place. The app also alerts users to a data breach or compromised password
Apple CEO Tim Cook called iOS 18 “the biggest upgrade in history,” letting users personalize and customize their iPhone, more easily relive moments in Photos, and message and call in new ways.
While the additions are exciting, tech experts have delved into the operating system to find features that will be useful in our daily lives.
Password app
Apple has added a new app to iOS 18 for those who know the pain of having to reset your password over and over again because you forgot it.
The Passwords app does not remember the login details for all of your accounts.
All information stored there is protected by end-to-end encryption and you can lock it with Face ID or Touch.
The app is built on Keychain, Apple’s password management system in macOS.
“This makes it even easier for users to access their passwords and view all of their credentials, including passwords, passcodes, and verification codes, all in one place,” Apple said in a statement.
The app can also be synced with other devices, such as an iPad or Mac, so users are alerted to any data breaches or compromised passwords.
Currency converter
The function not only converts currencies, but also length, time, speed and weight, making traveling abroad a lot easier.
Users go to the Calculator app, tap the icon that resembles a physical calculator, and enable “Convert.”
The OS also includes a travel hack. The Calculator app now converts currency, time, speed and measurements
There are two arrows, one up and one down, that allow you to scroll through the different units and currencies.
Then enter a value in one of the fields to see the conversions as you type.
Share Wi-Fi passwords with QR codes
QR codes became popular during the pandemic, giving the world access to information without physical contact.
Now, Apple is using the tool to easily share passwords with multiple people at once, eliminating the need to have every letter, number, and symbol read out loud.
And the QR code works with Android smartphones.
To access the new tool, users open the new Passwords app and tap on the Wi-Fi card.
Then select the network you are sharing and click Show Network QR Code.
Transcribe voice memos
It’s a great way to record your thoughts or a quick voice note. Users simply open the Voice Memo app, press record, and let their words flow.
But now users can transcribe those messages, allowing them to see the words they wrote and also making them searchable by keywords.
You can view a transcription as you record using the Voice Memos app.
After pressing the bright red record button, swipe up from the top of the waveform and tap the Selected Transcription button to view the transcription live.
Users can record voice memos, including phone calls, and transcribe the conversation
The waveform disappears temporarily and the transcription appears with the current word highlighted.
To return to the waveform view, tap the Selected Transcription button.
The new feature allows users to view the transcribed text once the recording is complete by tapping on the voice memo you want to view.
Tap the More actions icon and do one of the following:
Copy a portion of the transcript: Choose View Transcript, select the text you want to copy, and tap Copy.
Copy the entire transcript: Choose Copy Transcript.
You can open another document, such as an email message or a text file, and paste the text into it.
And to search for text, users swipe down from the top of the recordings list to reveal the search field. Enter the text you want to find in the search field.
