Team GB wins bronze in women’s eight rowing final to secure seventh medal in the sport at Paris Olympics

The British team won bronze in the women’s eight to secure their seventh medal in the sport at the Olympic Games in Paris this summer.

Heidi Long, Rowan McKellar, Holly Dunford, Emily Ford, Lauren Irwin, Eve Stewart, Harriet Taylor and Annie Campbell-Orde rowed a fantastic race and continued a fantastic Games for Great Britain.

The medal in this event adds to Britain’s silver in Rio in 2016 and was compensation for their last-place finish in Tokyo three years ago.

Favourites Romania started the race dominantly, while Canada and the British remained in contact throughout the race.

Meanwhile, Team USA was getting more and more into the race and the gap was closing significantly heading into the final 500 meters.

But Team GB held on to win another medal in a sport in which they continue to enjoy success.
