The fed-up teachers share the most ‘ridiculous’ names they’ve ever seen having identical twins, from Unique and Uniqua to Kelly and Kellen.

  • A teacher was irritated to find identical twins with almost identical names in the class
  • She revealed on Reddit that she had trouble identifying ‘Selene’ from ‘Selina’
  • Teachers have also dealt with ‘Chris, Christopher’; ‘Mary, Mary’; ‘Kelly, Kellen’

A teacher was in despair when she began listing the most “ridiculous” names she’d seen parents call their identical twins.

The woman, of American origin, jovially made a Reddit she posted asking her fellow teachers to discourage her from calling Child Protective Services after teaching twins with nearly identical names.

“I am a substitute teacher currently working in a room with identical twin girls named Selene and Selina,” she wrote.

He also shared that the similarity was not a fluke, and that one of his friends had committed a similar sin.

“I have a friend who knows twins named Mary and Marie,” she said.

While teachers have to deal with various types of stressors during their careers, thinking about unlucky nicknames is perhaps one of the most frustrating.

‘I can really deal with difficult kids,’ one teacher agreed. “But a stupid name means the parents are idiots, which is much harder to navigate.”

Hundreds of teachers from around the world came together to share the craziest names they had put on their roll calls.

‘Unique and Uniqua. Identical twins. I’m glad I only had one of them in class, I don’t think I could have taught both of them with a straight face.

“I once had both Heaven and Nevaeh in my class,” said one teacher. I had to beg to get one of them transferred.

‘McKenzie, McKenna and McKinley,’ another shuddered. I don’t know what they would have done if they had a fourth girl.

The names sometimes resulted in a lot of additional paperwork for the schools, much to his chagrin.

‘I worked as a teacher’s assistant before and the worst names I ever saw for twins were Kathy and Kathie. No middle names, so they literally had the same name, with different spellings.

Another revealed: ‘I can imagine your paperwork nightmare. I know Valentina and Valentia with very similar middle names. They literally had to correct almost all of their documents, due to typos or middle name mix-ups.’

But the awkward naming traditions affected more than just educators.

‘My husband went to school with twins named Chris and Christopher.’

Another added: ‘I went to school with identical twins named Kelly and Kellen. They always wore very similar clothes and even wore the same type of glasses. We were in high school, so it was kind of creepy and weird that they didn’t express any kind of individuality.

‘My mother knew a set of twins, one a boy and the other a girl, named Riley and Ryleigh. They loved it. The twins are crazy!

A man shared a story where two brothers might seem to have normal first names, until their middle names were revealed.

“I know Edward John and John Edward,” she wrote. ‘I guess they were really concentrating on those names.’

Managers in the workplace have also been affected.

He added: “When they handed me their direct deposit slip, I was surprised that they shared bank accounts.”
