A teacher was reportedly stabbed in the eye and two pupils stabbed with a knife by a 14-year-old student who pulled a knife from his backpack and went on a rampage as lessons started at a Spanish school this morning.

The teenager, whose name has not been given, is said to have repeatedly stabbed three teachers and two students as classes started around 8.25am at the Elena García Armada Institute in the city of Jerez de la Frontera, southern Spain.

The 14-year-old, who is said to have autism, had entered the classroom this morning before pulling a large knife from his backpack and starting “stabbing everyone who passed by”, police sources claim.

He allegedly stabbed his classmates and tried to take them hostage before teachers tried to restrain him – but this was when he allegedly stabbed a female teacher in the eye and two other teachers.

Police were called to the scene where they quickly apprehended the 14-year-old student and arrested him while the high school was evacuated and medics treated the injured.

The teacher who was stabbed in the eye was rushed to hospital and is in serious condition, reports said ABC de Andalusia. The condition of the other two teachers and two students is not yet known.

When parents heard the news of the stabbing, panicked parents rushed to the school where they had dropped their children off just minutes earlier. They were seen standing at the school gate, waiting and hoping that their children would come out unscathed
