Teacher shares list of crazy kid names from her September class — and no one can fathom what the parents were thinking
With a rapidly growing world population, more and more parents are giving their children unconventional names to help them stand out from the crowd.
And it’s hardly a new trend, as celebrities have been giving their offspring unconventional names for decades, and it’s not surprising that the fashion has caught on with the rest of us.
But be mindful of teachers, who find it increasingly difficult to grapple with the growing list of names they must learn as new children join their classes each year.
An anonymous teacher even shared a list of unconventional names from her September register on Facebook after a ‘quick scan of school enrollments’ for this year, said The sun.
Among the uncommon but increasingly common names are those like Jaxen and Aliyah. Others, however, are slightly rarer.

According to the teacher, one name on the list stood out: Syakyra – which is said to be pronounced ‘Shakira’.
When tested by even the most accurate spelling experts, other ‘unusual’ names on the list included Rhydah, Presillar, Christisarah, Anjewel’Lea – and Biar Biar.
Other curious names – along with alternate spellings – shared by the teacher included: Deklyn, Alarna, Aaryah, Maz, Angel-Lee, and Karleb.
The post made the rounds on Meta’s social site, leading parents to express bewilderment at the unique monikers and wonder why anyone would pick these specific names for their kids.
One of them wrote, “I think a lot of the parents should sign up because they obviously never graduated from elementary school.”
A second parent said, “This is really tragic, at least none of them will get bullied because they’re all so bad lol.”
Another parent joked, “These parents really don’t think about it.”
However, some people found the names rather tame.
One said, “Normal names on this list are Diamond, Aliyah, Jaylene, Porsha, and Aalijah – I don’t think Aliyah or Skylar-raine are tragedies.”

Meanwhile, the post prompted other teachers to share the unusual names of students they’ve previously taught. One teacher wrote, “I had one spelled J’ley and pronounced Jaylee.”
Another said, ‘I had a (apprentice) named Pistol. I feel like that speaks for itself.’
Another commenter said, “My girlfriend is a teacher and she has a kid named A’Blessyn.”
The surge in unconventional names isn’t just a difficult experience for teachers who are expected to quickly learn 30 names at a time — it’s also starting to cause rifts in romantic relationships.
An expectant father took to Reddit this month for advice after saying he disliked the unique names his wife hopes to name their first child.
The anonymous British man said he preferred traditional names because he didn’t want his child to be “bullied” or “taken less seriously” because of a “ridiculous” name.
However, his partner has suggested a list of unique names, including Fennix, Park, and Diesel.
