Teacher Larry Lexicon reveals harrowing reason behind ‘poop bucket’ in classroom

A teacher went viral after sharing the heartbreaking reality of why he keeps a ‘poop bucket’ inside his classroom.

The California educator, known as Larry’s Lexicon on TikTok, he reposted a video of himself explaining what the cube was for, just days after the tragic Nashville school shooting that killed six people, including three children.

Larry’s video has been viewed by over 8.7 million as of this writing.

“It turns out that people don’t really know why we have these buckets in the classroom, it’s because of the school shootings,” he tells his students.

A California teacher known as Larry Lexicon went viral after sharing the heartbreaking reality of why he keeps a ‘poop bucket’ inside his classroom.

‘I hate to say it bluntly, but when I started teaching we didn’t have these cubes in the classroom.

“Now every classroom has a bucket like this in there because we lock down and are locked up in our classrooms for extended periods while the situation is resolved.”

Larry then begins removing a number of items from the bucket before dumping all the contents on the desks in front of him, including toilet paper, describing it as a “survival kit”.

He initially posted an extended version of the video in February, in response to complaints he received about another TikTok clip that was meant to be a joke, but was taken seriously by some.

“These people on TikTok who are complaining about the bucket, how many of them do you think go to work every day and have to worry about maybe pooping in a bucket because there’s a shooter at work?” continues Larry, who is originally from Canada.

‘Not many’ was one of the responses from his students.

‘But you do it,’ added the teacher, ‘Everyone in this classroom does it, I do, that’s the reality of school in America, right?’

Larry then turns his attention to an orange backpack, pulling out a packed blanket.

What do you think they are for? she asked her.

After a couple of guesses from his class, Larry reveals the shady use of the item he was holding.

“These are so you can cover the bodies if you need to, so you don’t have to see them,” Larry said.

‘If I have to do that, it’s probably someone I care about, someone you care about.

“So the people who are upset about our bucket video are upset about the wrong thing.

‘They should be upset that these cubes exist. That we are at the point where we need these cubes.

Larry added that people need to make sure they spend their energy “being upset about the right things.”

So far in 2023, there have been 13 school shootings with injuries or deaths, according to Education Week.

Last year there were 51 school shootings where at least one person was killed or injured, up from 35 the year before.

In 2020, another California teacher, Thomas Smith, wrote in the Los Angeles Times about the arrival of the ‘poop bucket’ in his classroom.

“California is one of many states where school district officials are placing porta-potties in classrooms for use during long closures due to active shooters,” the public high school educator wrote.

I’m not mad about the bucket. I am saddened that it is necessary,” added another.

“I have never seen the video of the bucket, but it is so messed up that this is how the situation is handled. Buckets instead of gun control,” a third person said.

“So sad that these are needed remotely, it breaks my heart,” read another comment.
