A teacher has been arrested on suspicion of raping male students as young as 10 and forcing them to have sex while he watched in a shocking case that has rocked Brazil.
Mateus Jose Mendes, 50, is said to have raped at least four students in Nova Iguacu de Goias, in the central Brazilian state of Goias.
Mendes was arrested Wednesday after one of his alleged victims, now aged 15, came forward to say he had been abused since he was 10.
Another alleged victim, aged 18, also claimed to have been abused by the teacher from the age of 10.
Police believe that Mendes – who was also a football coach – tricked his students into going to his house before committing the heinous crimes.

Mendes, who hid in the bathroom of his sister’s house when police arrested him, had worked in town as a teacher for at least 15 years.
While there are currently four known alleged victims, more may emerge.
Police Chief Peterson Amin said: “He lured male students to his residence and committed crimes of sexual abuse there.
“He also taught football and when they went to get the ball to play the game, he asked to ‘get the ball’ at his house and practiced several abuses there.”
The teacher allegedly forced young boys to have sex with him and each other while he masturbated.
A statement from the Nova Iguacu de Goias Civil Police on Thursday said: “The sub-delegation of the Nova Iguaçu de Goiás Police yesterday executed a preventive arrest warrant [Wednesday]issued after police representation, against a teacher at a school in that municipality for committing crimes of rape of the vulnerable and sexual exploitation of adolescents whose victims were his students, all male.
“During a police investigation, it was established that the person, who gave lessons to children and adolescents in Nova Iguaçu, lured them to his residence and forced them to have sexual intercourse with each other, and also with the person under investigation, with anal sex. and verbally.’
The statement added: ‘If that wasn’t enough, he was also a footballer for one of the victims and asked them to collect the ‘ball’ from his home before the match. At that time, he also started making sexual advances against the teens.

One of the teens, now 15 years old, said the abuse had been going on since he was 10 years old and decided to press charges because he couldn’t handle the situation anymore.
As a result, the police station forwarded the person’s arrest request to the forum and, once the request was accepted, began monitoring to locate the author, who was hiding in the house of one of his sisters, in Uruaçu.
“He hid in the bathroom of the residence, where he was arrested. The location of the suspect for arrest was supported by the Uruaçu intelligence unit.”
Mendes has been charged with multiple rapes and sexual export of minors.
