Teacher, 33, who had sex with pupil, 15, in her car and a flat after plying him with booze faces jail

A teacher who had sex with a 15-year-old student in the back of her car and in a flat – the latter after plying him with booze – is facing jail.

Siobhan McLean, 33, met the boy in her role as head of student support at a secondary school in Lanarkshire, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard.

She had helped a relative of the teen apply for college courses and attend college classes the boy was attending.

But after the boy’s relative left school, McLean contacted him on social media and they began exchanging messages – before the mother-of-one arranged to meet him at a university club.

They went out for a night with someone else, drinking alcohol, before retreating to a flat where she started kissing the teenager and then had sex with him.

Days later she arranged to see him again before they had sex in the back of her BMW in a remote car park at Craignethan Castle near Blackwood, Lanarkshire.

The boy’s mother later became concerned when she heard him say “I love you” during a phone call.

He had claimed he was speaking to a friend, but his phone was seized, revealing McLean’s intimate messages, prompting a call to police.

McLean, from Airdrie, Lanarkshire, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted engaging in sexual activity with the boy in September last year.

Fiscal depute Aga Mathieson said: “The suspect, the girl and the boy, went to the student union together where they all drank alcohol.

‘They stayed for a few hours and returned to the girl’s accommodation where they continued to consume alcohol and eat pizza.

‘The girl went to bed leaving the accused and complainant playing cards but then they started kissing and having sex.

‘They put their clothes back on and went to sleep.

‘A week later, the suspect and complainant were texting and she picked up the complainant in her black BMW.

‘They drove to the car park at Craignethan Castle, got into the back seat of the car and had sexual intercourse.

‘The car has since been scientifically examined and DNA evidence supports the fact that sexual activity took place.’

The prosecutor added: ‘His phone was later seized and he was told he could not be trusted with it at night.

“Messages were checked and a number was identified between the suspect and the complainant and a report was made to the police.”

Sheriff Liam Murphy has deferred sentence against the first offender until next month due to charges and continued bail.

He added: ‘You have pleaded guilty to a serious offense involving a significant breach of trust.’

McLean, who no longer works as a teacher, was placed on the sex offenders register.
