Te Whatu Ora Waikato is implementing a new companion solution and more instructions
At Whatu Ora Waikato has implemented a new task management solution, replacing the old system that had contributed to patient flow bottlenecks.
About 130 of the organization’s employees who manage more than 1,200 tasks every day can now send and receive notifications in real time using Alcidion‘s Smartpage non-clinical solution.
According to a press release, Smartpage facilitates “fast, reliable, and contextual” messaging with electronic requests, instant dispatch, and self-attribution. It provides them with a centralized view of all requests and resource availability and allows them to self-assign and submit or reassign open tasks when they are busy. In addition, the solution gives them the opportunity to book cleaning services.
The Government of New South Wales recently expanded its virtual urgent care service for children statewide.
The free virtualKIDS service, delivered by the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network and Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD), connects families with a clinical nurse who helps determine the best care pathway for their children and their non-life-threatening health conditions.
VirtualKIDS is accessible via referral on Healthdirect and is available for children up to 16 years of age. The service was initially offered in South Eastern Sydney, Western Sydney and HNE LHDs. Since it was piloted in 2021 at the height of the pandemic, it has saved two in three children referred to the service from going to the emergency department.which relieves some of the pressure.
The statewide expansion of virtualKIDS, which is part of the current NSW Government’s commitment to deliver 25 emergency care services by mid-2025, is now expected to support at least 500 NSW children and their families every month.
NSW Health Minister Ryan Park added that the service will provide specialist pediatric advice to doctors in rural and regional hospitals and paramedics in non-emergency situations.
iMedX will continue to provide clinical transcription services to health services in New Zealand’s northern region after winning another tender At Whatu Ora.

The Tasmanian Government recently launched the Emergency Department Dashboard online to give citizens access to information about current emergency department wait times for non-urgent patients.
This comes as the number of emergency department presentations increases, with emergency teams across the state treating more than 480 people every day and peak demand increases at weekends and holidays.
“I would like to emphasize that the new dashboard is not relevant to people who are seriously ill,” Tasmania’s Health Minister Guy Barnett stressed. He added that those requiring urgent medical care for serious injury or illness should always go to the nearest emergency department immediately, while those with injuries or illnesses that are not life-threatening should explore other options, such as seeking advice from Healthdirect.
