Five teenagers have been charged in a Melbourne shopping mall stabbing after they clashed with two young men, leaving one of them fighting for his life.

One of the men, a 19-year-old from Sunbury, is in hospital in critical condition after he was allegedly stabbed in the food court of Taylors Lake shopping center in north Melbourne shortly after 7pm on Wednesday. .

The teenagers were arrested a short time later outside Watergardens railway station.

The youngest person allegedly involved was a 14-year-old boy who was charged with intentionally causing serious injury and scuffle, Victoria Police said Thursday.

Four others, three 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old, were charged with brawling.

They are expected to appear before a bail judge for a pretrial hearing on Thursday.
