Taylor Swift’s new track imgonnagetyouback sparks comparisons to Olivia Rodrigo song – three years after songwriting credit addition: ‘Not cool at all’

Taylor Swift is facing heat from Olivia Rodrigo fans after releasing a song that bore similarities to one previously released by the Drivers License singer.

Swift’s new song imgonnagetyouback and Rodrigo’s 2023 song Get Him Back! contain the phrase ‘get him back’ – but the saying has the same double meaning in both songs.

In both cases, it is used to describe wanting to reconcile with an ex or taking revenge on him or her.

The moment was not lost on fans who remembered how Swift was added to the end credits of the Rodrigo song Deja Vu in 2021 after fans noticed that the chords were similar to those of the Taylor song Cruel Summer.

Now, fans are standing up for Olivia on X after noticing the similarities.

“So Olivia can’t scream in a bridge because that’s Taylor’s concept. but Taylor can use the whole double meaning to get them back, and it’s a common concept? NEWSFLASH they are both common and Olivia shouldn’t have given up 50% royalties for deja vu,” one person wrote.

Another posted a meme from the film The Social Network featuring actor Andrew Garfield, saying: ‘You better get a lawyer, you a**hole. ‘Because I won’t come back for half, I’ll come back for everything.’

“Olivia Rodrigo when she reached #18 on the Taylor Swift album,” the X user captioned the post.

One fan pointed out that the word game was used more than a decade earlier by Fiona Apple, who released the song “Get Him Back” in 2005.

“Olivia Rodrigo invented the double meaning of getting him back” “no Taylor Swift.” First of all, no one has done that, but also. Fiona Apple did that in 2005,” the X user tweeted.

One fan called it all “insane hypocrisy” as they weighed in on the issue.

‘Taylor Swift accepts a royalty from Olivia Rodrigo for a line in deja vu that sounds a bit cruel summer, even though she just released a song called ‘imgonnagetoyouback’ which has the exact same concept and similar lyrics as Olivia’s ‘Get Him Back’ insane hypocrisy.’

Taylor Swift’s ‘Imgonnagetoyouback’ and Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘get him back’ sound eerily similar, but Olivia’s is much better and was the first. Not cool at all,” another wrote, along with screenshots of the lyrics for comparison.

“Wait a minute, Taylor credited Olivia Rodrigo with writing her songs on Deja Vu because it sounded a bit like Cruel Summer. Does Olivia get credit because imgonnagetyouback has the same conceit as Get Him Back?’ people wondered.

Taylor’s disputed song is from her brand new album, The Tortured Poets Department.

The issue fans were referring to happened in 2021, after the release of Olivia’s album Sour.

She faced copyright issues with some songs, including Deja Vu.

The star had re-recorded a melody from Taylor’s Cruel Summer, leading Rodrigo to later give co-writing credits as well as royalties to Swift. She later faced a similar situation with Paramore.

In addition to Swift, co-writers Jack Antonoff and St. Vincent were added to the credits of Deja Vu.

Afterwards, fans speculated that the duo were involved in a feud with each other.

But Rodrigo insisted she had no problems with anyone when asked about an alleged rift with Swift.

“I don’t argue with anyone,” she said Rolling stone. ‘I’m very cold. I stay to myself. I have my four friends and my mom, and those are basically the only people I ever talk to. There’s nothing to say.’

She also said she wasn’t that “involved” in the songwriting credit issue: “It’s not something I was super involved in.”

“It was more team-on-team. So I wouldn’t be the best person to ask this.’
