Taylor released the base edition of the album at midnight before delighting her fans hours later with an expanded version called 3AM that contains seven more songs.
Chart topper: The album’s position on the Billboard 200 album chart will be revealed next month. If Midnights debuts at number one, it will mark Swift’s 11th album to top the charts
Exciting: No artist has hit such high first-week numbers since Taylor herself dropped her score-boosting album Reputation five years ago, according to Billboard
She shattered the Spotify record for the highest number of streams on the first day and received rave reviews for her work.
The Pennsylvania-born singer celebrated her triumph with critics by tweeting a link to a particularly glowing review in The Guardian.

The five-star review hailed her “sophisticated 10th album as a sign that she no longer feels like she has to compete with her peers.”
Taylor played one of her co-workers Lana Del Rey on a song called Snow On The Beach that also featured a tip of the hat for one of her musical idols.
She describes herself as “anything for you like Janet,” referring to Janet Jackson’s hit song All For You released in 2001.
Now Janet responded by writing, “i LUV it” over a Tik Tok of herself grinning and saying, “That’s nice,” as she listened to Snow On The Beach.

Her star list of co-writers on the album includes her actor boyfriend Joe Alwyn and Lenny Kravitz’ movie star daughter Zoe Kravitz.
Lavender Haze, the album’s opening track, pays tribute to her six-year romance with Joe, a British actor who has starred in films such as The Favorite.

Other songs are more tantalizing, with jabs rumored to be aimed at Kanye West and Scooter Braun, who she’s been feuding with for years.
In Vigilante S***’s lyrics, she describes “dressing for revenge” rather than “women,” “men,” “thugs” or “innocents.”
Taylor also claims to be cunning “as thick as thieves with your ex-wife,” which some fans have interpreted as Kim Kardashian.
For over a decade, Taylor has had a simmering feud with Kanye West, and the reality star got involved during his marriage to Kim.

Kim filed for divorce from Kanye more than a year and a half ago, though it’s not known if her divorce from him led to a rapprochement with Taylor.
A song called You’re On Your Own, Kid briefly alludes to the eating disorder Taylor had previously talked about from which she suffered during her early stardom.

The song is a touching love song in which Taylor reflects that Joe is one of the few people in her life who hangs out with her without an ulterior motive.
Throughout the song, she hits figures like ‘industry disruptors’ and ‘smooth talking hucksters’ and ‘the voices that beg, ‘You should do more.’
Meanwhile, when she gets home, Joe is just “humming in the kitchen,” like, “All you ever wanted from me was nothing sweet.”
