Disney has announced that Disney Plus will be the exclusive streaming home for Taylor Swift’s The Eras tour.
As announced by Disney CEO Bob Iger during the The Walt Disney Company’s first quarter 2024 earnings call, Taylor Swift – The Eras Tour (Taylor’s version) debuts March 15 on Disney Plus. This is the first time it will be fully viewable on a major streaming platform.
“The Eras tour is a true phenomenon that continues to thrill and captivate fans around the world,” said Iger. “And we are very excited to bring this electrifying concert to audiences wherever they are, exclusively on Disney Plus.”
The film earned over $260 million (per Box Office Mojo) in ticket sales during its theatrical run in late 2023 – a stunning box office performance that made it the best-selling concert film ever. The Era tourThe big-screen showings also eclipsed revenues from big-name films, including Disney’s own animated film WishSony Pictures and Apple’s historical epic NapoleonAnd The miraclesone of two Marvel Phase 5 theatrical duds of the past twelve months.
It’s unclear how much money Swift, who recently became the first musician to win four consecutive Grammy Awards for Album of the Year, will make from her partnership with Disney. However, the pop megastar will certainly contribute to the revenue of more than a billion dollars The Eras tour has raked in so far – per The Associated PressSwift’s latest concert earned her a whopping $1.04 billion in ticket sales alone. Add to that the $261 million she earned from the big screen movie, and Swift is $1.3 billion richer than 12 months ago.
For fans who have already seen it The Eras tour in person and/or at their local multiplex, the Disney Plus version has bonus content that is sure to attract diehard Swifties. One of the world’s top streaming services has confirmed that there will be five additional songs to enjoy The Eras Tour (Taylor’s version), including the 2020 hit “Cardigan,” which was not featured in the concert film nor in its previous video-on-demand release on Prime Video and YouTube, among others. Based on the popularity, I think we’ll make an exception to include this The Eras tour on our list of the best Disney Plus movies.

The Eras tourThe upcoming release on Disney Plus will continue the trend of live concerts making their way into the streaming giant’s back catalogue.
At the time of writing, there are a number of concert films worth streaming on the platform, including Elton John Live: Farewell to Dodger Stadiumwhich made history when it was livestreamed exclusively on Disney Plus in late 2023. Pop rockers Imagine Dragons, hugely successful K-pop group Blackpink and multi-award-winning superstar Billie Eilish are three other hugely popular music acts that join the streamer’s user base that also includes recordings of live shows.
As Max and Apple TV Plus look to deliver prestige TV to their fan bases, and Netflix slowly expands its lineup of sports-based content, Disney Plus must find its own niche collection of projects to bring to the table.
In my opinion, expanding the live concert offering with pop sensations like Taylor Swift will only benefit matters. If it can continue to show the world’s biggest artists that it is the best streamer to present such projects, they will be more likely to partner with Disney Plus than its streaming rivals, further strengthening the reach of live concerts and enticing new users to to register. – and since Disney Plus has confirmed it will have lost more than a million users in the first quarter of 2024, it needs all the help it can get to turn its fortunes around.
