Taylor Swift teases The Tortured Poets Department album release week with Spotify message – and promises more updates from ‘the department’

Taylor Swift returned to work on Monday after spending part of the weekend at Coachella with her boyfriend Travis Kelce.

The hitmaker, 34, dressed in a sweater as she sat in front of a typewriter for a black and white video clip on social media.

“Hey Spotify, have a great release week of the album Tortured Poets Department,” the artist said in tease for the Friday April 19 release of her eleventh album.

She reminded her legions of fans, “Make sure to pre-save the album and keep coming back for more updates from the department.”

The Grammy winner has dropped small hints about the material on the upcoming LP.

On Sunday, the superstar posted a photo with the album cover and the caption: “I wish I could remember how we almost all had it.”

On April 8, as millions of people in North America enjoyed the solar eclipse, the singer took the opportunity to write, “Crowds go wild at your fingertips/Half moonlight, full eclipse.”

On March 3, she wrote, “Old habits die screaming…” and unveiled an exclusive bonus track, The Black Dog, available on her website.

An accompanying image of Swift playing her guitar reads, “Old habits die hard.”

Another bonus track, The Albatross, was announced on February 23, with a photo saying “Can I cry?”

On February 16, she shared news of a single called The Bolter, with the explicit lyrics “You don’t have to tell me about sad.”

Swift first announced the album at the 2024 Grammys, where she won awards for Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.

The clever songwriter has dropped little hints about the contents of The Dead Poets Department, with lyrics and bonus songs available for purchase in various formats when the album drops on April 19.

She attended the ceremonies in a white dress with black gloves, matching the album’s aesthetic.

During a concert in Australia, she told the audience that the new work was “a lifeline” for her.

“It kind of reminded me why songwriting is something that actually gets me through life,” she explained.

“I’ve never had an album where I needed songwriting more than I did for Tortured Poets,” she claimed.

Swift and her team have signed deals with all the major streaming services for pre-orders, so fans can access the new music as soon as it’s released. The album will also be available in exclusive clear vinyl at Target.
