Taylor Swift takes a jab at Kanye West as she jokes about being ‘interrupted’ on stage during Eras tour… 14 years after rapper crashed her VMAs speech
Taylor Swift appeared to criticize Kanye West, referring to their infamous encounter at the Video Music Awards during her Eras Tour stop in Mexico City.
The 33-year-old Bad Blood hitmaker was addressing the crowd on her weekend show, when they suddenly burst into “Taylor” chants, temporarily rendering her speechless.
The singer-songwriter then told the audience, “The best way to get interrupted, by the way, is just people chanting your name,” as seen in a TikTok posted by sincerelynydia from Sunday’s show.
Swift then seemed to refer to Kanye, 46,’s hiatus from 14 years ago, adding, “It’s really the only way to be interrupted, and I would know.”
In 2009, Kanye stormed the stage at the MTV VMAs while Taylor, who was 19 at the time, delivered an acceptance speech for Best Female Video, declaring that Beyonce’s music video deserved to win Taylor’s.

14 years ago: In 2009, Kanye stormed the stage at the VMAs as Taylor – then 19 – delivered an acceptance speech declaring that Beyonce’s music video deserved to win
During the live broadcast, Kanye grabbed the microphone from Taylor’s hand to tell the audience that Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” video deserved the award, instead of Taylor’s “You Belong With Me.”
“Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish,” Kanye said as he took the stage.
But Beyoncé had one of the greatest videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!’
Despite the fact that the interaction happened so long ago, the moment sparked a long-standing feud between the two musicians.
This wasn’t the first time Taylor had referenced her feud with the Donda rapper while on tour.
In July, Swift laughed at the idea of forgiving old nemesis Kanye at her show at Seattle’s Lumen Field.
The Grammy winner decided – for the first time in five years – to perform her 2017 song This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things, a diss track aimed at West.
While performing an acoustic version of the song, Swift started laughing when, referring to West, she said, “And to you, because forgiveness is a fun thing to do.”

The singer continued to chuckle as she confessed, “I can’t even say it with a straight face.”
While the musical stars seemed to have it better in the years following the VMAs — they were pictured at a number of events in the years since — things exploded after the release of West’s 2016 song Famous.
West claimed at the time that Swift gave him her blessing to call her a “B****” in the song’s lyrics, in a reference to the VMA incident.
Swift said she never made such an agreement, which led to a public feud with West after he and his now-ex-wife Kim Kardashian released a July 2016 phone call West and Swift had regarding the contents of the famous song.
Kardashian alluded to Swift being a snake when the call went out, saying in a tweet, “Wait, it’s legit National Snake Day?!?!? They’re having a holiday for everyone, I mean everything these days!”
Swift spoke to Vogue in 2019 about how she handled the high-profile scandal, saying she put her energy into her material.
“A massive public disgrace, with millions of people saying you canceled the quote-unquote, is a very isolating experience,” she said of the difficult time. “If you say someone has been cancelled, that’s not a TV show. It’s a human.
“You send massive amounts of messages to this person to either shut up, disappear, or it could also be taken as, ‘kill yourself.'”
She talked about the creative process in the wake of the scandal, which reportedly inspired the songs This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things and Look What You Made Me Do.

Hola Mexico: The star celebrated on stage during a performance at Mexico City’s Foro Sol last week, saying ‘hola’ and ‘gracias’ while on stage
“I immediately knew I had to make music about it because I knew it was the only way I could survive it,” Swift told the outlet. “It was the only way I could maintain my sanity and also tell the story of what it’s like to go through something so humiliating.”
As Swift continues to build on her praise and reputation, West’s career has plummeted in the six months since her December 1, 2022 appearance on Alex Jones’ show Infowars, in which he lavishly praised the Nazis and Adolf Hitler.
The professional ramifications of West’s repeated statements about anti-Semitism included Adidas cutting ties with him on October 25 over his conduct.
Foot Locker and Gap promised to take Yeezy off the shelves, while fashion pillars such as Vogue magazine and Balenciaga publicly distanced themselves from the rapper/fashion designer.
The talent agency CAA removed West from the selection, while a documentary about West, made by the studio MRC, was shelved.
