Taylor Swift laughed at the idea of forgiving old nemesis Kanye West during her show at Seattle’s Lumen Field on Saturday, during her final stop on her Eras Tour.
The Grammy winner decided — for the first time in five years — to perform her 2017 song This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things, a diss track aimed at West, 46, following multiple conflicts over the years, most notably his interruption of her speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
While performing an acoustic version of the song, Swift started laughing as she said, in a reference to West, “And this is for you, because forgiveness is a fun thing to do.”
The 33-year-old singer continued to chuckle as she confessed, “I can’t even say it with a straight face.”
The Shake It Off singer’s impromptu performance inspired plenty of social media feedback from fans who have been eyeing the longstanding bad blood between the musical powerhouses.
The latest: Taylor Swift, 33, laughed at the idea of forgiving longtime nemesis Kanye West, 46, at her show at Seattle’s Lumen Field on Saturday, during her final stop on her Eras Tour
The seeds of the feud were planted at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards on September 13, 2009 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
In the infamous exchange, West Swift infamously interrupted during her victory speech for the Best Female Video award for You Belong With Me, which was nominated against Beyonce’s Single Ladies.
West came onstage and took the mic from Swift and told her, “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish.” But Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time.’
While the musical stars seemed to get better in the years since — they were pictured at a number of events in the years since — things exploded after the release of West’s 2016 song Famous.
West claimed at the time that Swift had given him her blessing to refer to her as a “B****” in the song’s lyrics, in reference to the VMA incident.
Swift said she never made such an agreement, which led to a public feud with West after he and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian released a July 2016 phone call West and Swift had about the content of the famous song.
Kardashian alluded to Swift being a snake upon release of the call, saying in a tweet, “Wait, it’s legit National Snake Day?!?!? They have holidays for everyone, I mean everything these days!’
Swift spoke in 2019 Fashion about how she handled the high-profile scandal and said she put her energy into her material.

“A massive public disgrace, with millions of people saying you canceled quote-unquote, is a very isolating experience,” she said of the difficult time. “If you say someone has been cancelled, that’s not a TV show. It’s a human.
“You send massive amounts of messages to this person to either shut up, disappear, or it could also be seen as ‘Make suicide.'”
She talked about the creative process in the wake of the scandal, which reportedly inspired the songs This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things and Look What You Made Me Do.
“I knew right away I had to make music about it because I knew it was the only way to survive it,” Swift told the outlet. “It was the only way I could maintain my sanity and also tell the story of what it’s like to go through something so humiliating.”
As Swift continues to build on her accolades and reputation, West’s career has plummeted in the six months since a Dec. 1, 2022 appearance on Alex Jones’ show Infowars, in which he lavishly praised the Nazis and Adolf Hitler.
“He didn’t kill six million Jews,” West said on the program, in which he appeared alongside white supremacist Nick Fuentes. “That is simply factually incorrect. I try not to shock.’
He continued, “I love Hitler. The Holocaust is not what happened…Hitler has many redeeming qualities…every human being has something of value that he has brought to the table, especially Hitler.”
The appearance came before West was banned from Twitter later that day for posting a photo of a swastika intertwined with a Star of David
The turbulent day capped a two-month period in which West dominated headlines after making a series of anti-Semitic remarks, which led to a number of companies cutting ties with him.
The race-related controversies began on October 3, 2022 when he and conservative commentator Candace Owens wore tops that read White Lives Matter at a Paris Fashion Week showcase for his Yeezy line.
West faced restrictions on his social media sites after he tweeted on Oct. 8, “I’m a little sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going to die con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE…”
He continued: The funny thing is that I can’t really be anti-Semitic because black people are actually Jewish too… you played with me and tried to blacken everyone who opposes your agenda.’

The professional ramifications of West’s repeated statements about anti-Semitism included Adidas cutting their ties with him over his behavior on October 25.
Foot Locker and Gap vowed to pull Yeezy off their shelves, while fashion supporters, including Vogue magazine and Balenciaga, publicly distanced themselves from the rapper/fashion designer.
The talent agency CAA removed West from the selection, while a documentary about West made by studio MRC was shelved.
