Taylor Swift lands at number five on Forbes’ World’s Most Powerful Women list after banner year featuring wildly successful Eras Tour and Travis Kelce romance

Taylor Swift has been named one of the most powerful women in the world by Forbes magazine, lands at number five on a list of world leaders, CEOs and heads of financial companies.

The influential publication has ranked Swift fifth on their list of the most powerful women in the world for 2023. Last year, she was number 79 on the same list.

“With a record-breaking world tour, the ability to move economies and a net worth of $1.1 billion, the 33-year-old entertainer is among the most influential women in the world,” Forbes says in an introductory paragraph about the pop star.

2023 was indeed a banner year for the pop star, with Taylor embarking on her record-breaking Eras Tour and a new romance with football star Travis Kelce that merged two unlikely worlds, Swifites and the NFL.

Swift reached billionaire status in October as a result of her historic Eras tour, which grossed nearly $850 million after 66 shows in the US, according to Forbes.

Swift's net worth grew to $1.1 billion after earning $190 million (after taxes) during the first leg of her tour, growing her net worth to $1.1 billion. She will then travel to Europe and Asia for her 2024 tour.

The publication also mentioned the economic benefits of a city hosting an Eras show. According to Forbes, fans spent an average of $1,300 on lodging, food and shopping during her two concerts in Denver, adding $140 million to Colorado's gross domestic product.

Estimates from the US Travel Association calculate that Taylor's tour added more than $5 billion to the state's economies.

“It's actually a large company that spans many industries,” Carolyn Sloan, a labor economist and professor at the University of Chicago, told Forbes.

“Her audience has been so young and so female for so long that people may have underestimated how big this thing could be economically. I don't think anyone doubts that today.'

Forbes also cites the success of her Eras Tour concert, released in October. The film earned $93 million in its opening weekend and earned more than $250 million worldwide.

The release of her film also coincided with her highly publicized romance with NFL star Travis Kelce, who has personally supported Swift during his games.

Additionally, Forbes brings up her successful re-recording of her songs after a controversy over the masters. Her last re-recording, 1989 (Taylor's Version), broke a Spotify record.
