Taylor Swift fan tribute to late grandmother by sparks controversy during Eras Tour in Nashville

Fans of Taylor Swift paid a special tribute to her late grandmother Marjorie on Friday during one of her stops in Nashville on The Eras Tour on Friday, but have since sparked controversy on Twitter.

The Grammy winner, 33, who has recently sparked romance rumors with 1975 singer Matty Healy, sang the song Marjorie as a group of concertgoers close to the stage held up photos of her late grandmother, who had passed away when the star was just 13.

According to BillboardTaylor had called the moment both “meaningful” and “special” before moving onto the next song.

In the comment section of a video posted on Twitter capturing the scene, other fans had a contrary feeling towards the tribute, with one of them calling the tribute “repulsive.”

One Twitter user said she felt bad for Taylor, writing, “I don’t know anything about Taylor Swift. . that’s so unattainable, though I feel so sorry for her.’

One fan slammed Swifties, adding, “Every time there’s a line, hardcore Swifties cross it. This isn’t even remotely okay, and it’s honestly a little scary. Poor Taylor, it’s one thing to be a fan, but it’s quite another to pretend to be her close, personal friend. She deserves privacy and respect.’

During the clip shared by a Twitter user, the singer could be seen donning a floor-length yellow dress as she performed Marjorie, when a group of fans standing next to one side of the stage lifted pictures of her late grandmother into the air .

The moment she saw the tribute, her mouth fell open, but she quickly continued singing the song, at one point tapping her hand on her heart a few times.

During the moving performance at Nissan Stadium, other concertgoers could be seen holding up lights on their phones.

While onstage at a piano singing the next song, Swift had asked the sold-out crowd, “What are you trying to do to me?” per Billboard, adding, “Oh my God, that was so beautiful.”

She then went on to explain the meaning behind the song, saying, “So that song, Marjorie, that was a song I wrote about my mother’s mother, my grandmother.” She was also a singer. And she died when I was 13.’

The Blank Space singer went on to tell the audience that she “just knows” that her own mother is “just like bawling and has been for the past five and a half minutes, and I love you guys so much.”

Before moving onto the next song, Taylor quickly concluded, “That was so meaningful and so special.”

According to the publication, a TikTok user named Jessica Morris had come up with the idea and also shared a clip of the moment.

“I couldn’t be more proud to have made this crazy idea a reality. Lugging 300 copies through a crowded stadium wasn’t ideal, but for her I’d do it, ‘a million times!’ the fan had blown.

The Karma hitmaker performed three nights in Nashville on her Eras Tour, which is expected to end in August.

Over the weekend, Taylor herself was embroiled in more romantic rumors that she and 1975 singer Matty Healy have started dating. The British-born star cheered the singer on all three nights from the audience.

On night two, Healy hopped onstage to perform with opening act, Phoebe Bridgers, and on Sunday, the Somebody Else hitmaker was spotted wearing a 1989 T-shirt as he watched his rumored girlfriend take the stage again.

To further fuel romance rumors, Matty was spotted at the Grammy winner’s Nashville apartment on Friday and also early Sunday.

The rumors of a romance between Taylor and Matty first came to light last Wednesday, with a separate source reference The sun“She and Matty are madly in love,” and that the singer “wants to ‘own’ this romance, not hide it.”

Despite the speculation that the two have entered a relationship, both singers have yet to publicly confirm that they are dating.
