Taxi driver stabbed during attempted armed robbery in Townsville while working graveyard shift

A taxi driver who was stabbed during an alleged armed robbery while working at a cemetery has been rushed to hospital.

The driver, 69, came into contact with his attacker on Carr Street in Hermit Park, Townsville, about 3.20am on Friday.

Police say the driver was stabbed with a “bladed weapon” before attempting to reverse, causing the male attacker to flee the scene.

According to ambulance personnel, the victim suffered a stab wound in the abdomen.

They alerted authorities to what had happened when the victim was taken to Townsville University Hospital.

The police have now cordoned off the crime scene and are looking for the attacker who is still on the run.

They are calling on anyone who saw the attack or may have dashcam footage to contact police.
