Less than 24 hours after New Year's, a teenage boy has died in a horror car crash on a major highway.
The 16-year-old pedestrian was killed in a collision on the Tasman Highway in southern Tasmania just before midnight on Monday.
Following reports of the accident, emergency services were called to the scene in Orielton, north of Sorrell, about 25 kilometers northeast of Hobart.
Tasmania Police confirmed at 2.20am on Tuesday that the teenager did not survive the incident.

The highway between Hobart and Tasmania's east coast is blocked in both directions as Orielton Police continue to investigate the incident.
A roadblock has been placed on Brinktop Road, south of Oreilton and towards the northern part of the accident scene on Greens Road.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Tasmania Police for comment.
The boy, believed to be a pedestrian, did not survive the collision with police, confirming the boy's death early Tuesday morning.
