Target Australia wows with $70 ‘dupe’ of popular designer item: ‘It looks better than the $500 version’
- Targeted shoppers discover an affordable alternative to the Australian high-end fashion label
- The retailer is selling a beautiful pink ruffled dress for just $70
- One mother said she spent $495 on a similar model from Aje
Shoppers reluctant to spend hundreds of dollars on designer dresses have discovered what they believe is an affordable alternative at Target.
One mom couldn’t believe her eyes when she spotted a gorgeous pink ruffled dress for just $70 – after spending $495 on a similar style from Aje.
“I just ended up at Target. Please tell me why they have the dress I bought from Aje for $500? It literally looks exactly the same as my copy of Aje,” she said in disbelief.
“It only costs seventy dollars. I paid almost $500. Obviously the dresses are a little different, but come on. Quality and material are very different, but still a good dupe. Go with purpose.”
Both pastel pink dresses have similar features, including the V-neckline, ruffles throughout and adjustable straps.
However, the styles are different next to each other.
Target’s dress, with an off-the-shoulder sleeve design, accentuates the waist, while Aje’s version has layers of ruffles, giving it a flowy look.
Despite the huge price difference, many fashionistas pointed out that Aje, an Australian luxury fashion label known for its unique statement pieces made from high-quality materials, offers features that the cheaper version doesn’t have.

‘I have both dresses and I can assure you that the Aje is more beautiful. But I’ve gotten just as many compliments on Target’s cheaper option,” one person shared.
“If it makes you feel any better, they are significantly different and I think yours is worth the extra price,” another told the mom.
“Yours is much nicer, you can’t compare on quality,” someone explained.
“You pay $500 for better fabric, better quality control and a better fit, but also for a brand name,” another added.
However, many shoppers felt that Target’s dress was a great alternative for those who can’t afford to spend hundreds of dollars on designer labels.
“Target’s looks better,” someone said.
“Target is so much more fun – everyone in Australia wears Aje… I don’t get it,” another added with a laugh.
“The silhouette of the Target dress looks so much prettier along with the ruffles,” one person commented.

Meanwhile, many bargain hunters expressed their love for Target, with one saying she now only wears the department store’s stylish pieces.
“My wardrobe is now mostly Target, worth every penny and the quality is usually great too,” said one.
“Target has been so good with clothes lately,” another enthused.
