Security cameras of two men have been released as part of investigations into the suspicious death of a Chinese national found in a hotel stairwell near a gaming cafe.

Emergency services were called to the Meriton shopping precinct on Kent Street in Sydney’s CBD on December 7 last week out of concern for the well-being of a man.

The body of 25-year-old Chinese citizen Tao Cheng was found on a fire escape near the FBI internet cafe.

Police believe Cheng was last seen entering the cafe around 9 pm on December 4 before a cleaner made the grim discovery on a nearby stairwell three days later.

Mr. Cheng had suffered injuries to his chest and face.

A crime scene was established as detectives began an investigation into Mr. Cheng’s death, which is believed to be suspicious.

CCTV has been released from two men who can help with police investigations.

At the end of the 10-second clip, a man sporting a ponytail sees the camera and waves his hand at it before removing it.

It is not known if Cheng knew the two men who were captured on security cameras.

Eight days after his body was found, police are still trying to establish Mr. Cheng’s connections to Sydney.

‘Our main focus for today is to clarify why [Cheng] was in the stairwell and what happened in the stairwell,” acting detective Austen Devereux told reporters on Thursday.

“We urge those men to come forward.”

Mr. Cheng was wearing a black crew-neck T-shirt, black jeans, and khaki work boots at the time of his death.
