Robbie Williams, 49 – who first left the band in 1995, in the middle of their Nobody Else world tour –

He joined the band in 2010 for the single The Flood and album Progress, while making several cameos in the years since.

Both he and 53-year-old Jason Orange – who quit Take That in 2014 – decided not to return to the band when they performed at King Charles III’s Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle for the first time in four years in May.

In June, just a month after the iconic event, Howard was suspended from Groovebox Nottingham Pride and issued a fawning apology after liking the transphobic and homophobic tweets.

In early July, Howard returned to the stage with Take That at BST Hyde Park Festival 2023 in London.

Singer Howard took the stage with his bandmates Gary and Mark as they headlined the event in the British capital, on the same day London Pride took place in the city.

The musician would headline the LGBTIQA Festival Groovebox at the end of July, along with Horse Meat Disco, Essel and Sam Sax, among others.

Howard’s performance at the event was condemned by fans who took notice of his recent online activity – his Twitter account has since been deleted following the backlash.

Announcing the decision to fire him, Groovebox Nottingham Pride bosses said: ‘In light of recent events, Howard Donald will no longer be performing at our Nottingham Pride Festival on Saturday 29th July at Binks Yard.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the public for alerting us to the situation this morning and also appreciate your patience as we spoke with the relevant parties.”

They continued: “The Groovebox team stands in solidarity with the wider LGBTQ+ community, we believe that every human being has the right to be their authentic, true self, without fear of persecution and hatred.”

A spokesperson for the official Nottinghamshire PRIDE added: ‘It has been brought to our attention that there has been some anti-LGBTQ+ support by an artist at the Groovebox Pride Festival.

“This was not organized by Notts Pride. We are deeply concerned about this and reject homophobia, transphobia and biphobia in our city.

We are Nottspride and we fight for our LGBTQ+ community every day. We want to make this very clear: Groovebox Pride festival has no association with Notts Pride.

“We are calling on our amazing LGBTQ+ community and allies to join us in our march for equality on 7/29/23. There is no place for hatred in Nottingham.’

Howard shared his own statement on Instagram, writing: “I have made a huge mistake in my assessment of rating social media posts that are derogatory towards the LGBTQIA+ community and I am deeply sorry and know that I left behind.

“I am really disappointed in myself and I am sorry for the hurt I have caused by my unskilled actions. Obviously I still have a lot to learn and it’s a priority for me to do this.”

Before his account was deleted, Howard had liked tweets like, “Only women have periods! Men cannot menstruate. Transgender ‘women’ cannot menstruate PinkNews.

Howard also liked a tweet from Turning Point UK founder Charlie Kirk calling for Disney to be scrapped for holding a pride concert.

Other tweets included anti-vax messages and conspiracies.
