The family of a young woman who underwent plastic surgery after being smeared with glass during a night out at a pub hope no other young Australian has to endure such a horrific ordeal.
Taiya Sampson, 20, suffered serious facial injuries when she was attacked at The Landing in Alkimos, a seaside suburb of Perth, on Friday night.
According to police, an argument broke out that escalated when a 20-year-old woman hit Mrs. Sampson in the face with a wine glass.
She had a deep cut on her cheek and her forehead needed stitches.
Mrs Sampson also required plastic surgery to repair damage to her face, including a 2-inch gash that narrowly missed her right eye.
Maria Sampson gave an update on her daughter, who is now too afraid to leave the house.
The mother claimed that Taiya had not been drinking that night and that the alleged attack was unprovoked.
“It’s devastating. It’s just changed the course of her life,” Ms. Sampson said. The Western Australian reported.

‘I just don’t understand how someone, especially a girl her age, who knows she’s so careful about her appearance, can do something like that.’
The family also alleged that pub staff failed to call an ambulance for Taiya and allowed the alleged attacker to remain at the venue, Nine News reported.
The location has since disputed these claims.
A Two Rocks woman was charged with unlawful wounding over the incident and appeared in Perth District Court on Saturday.
She was released on bail and was due to appear in Joondalup District Court again on September 4.
Taiya’s mother Maris spoke out so that other people’s children would be spared the same fate (pictured is The Landing pub in Perth where the alleged attack took place)
Police suspect that the two women knew each other.
Mrs. Sampson has vowed to seek justice for her daughter.
“I think the system needs to change. I think they need to protect the person who’s been attacked more,” she said.
