Founder announces shock closure of popular Aussie bikini brand after just two years – and the reason behind it: ‘I’m so sorry’

The founder of an Australian bikini brand has announced that she is closing her famous line because she ‘no longer has time’ to run her brand.

Tahlia Skaines, originally from the Gold Coast but now living in Bali, said she was “time-starved” after buying a house in need of renovation while working multiple jobs.

The 29-year-old social media star launched her brand Skaines the Label in early 2022, but has since reevaluated her priorities.

“Over the past few months I’ve been thinking about where I am, what I’m doing in life, what fulfills me and what makes me happy,” she said in a video.

‘I’ve known for a while that I don’t have much time and that I have so much to do. I have so many different roles.

“Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my job and I feel so blessed and lucky to have this life and to be able to do what I do.”

Nevertheless, it takes her a lot of time to get started as an influencer and run her brand.

‘I’ve come to the realization that I don’t want to feel so rushed, busy, and chaotic, like I’m always playing catch-up – especially at this stage in my life.

‘When I was younger it was fine, but now I want to be more settled. I want to be more relaxed and calm.’

Ms. Skaines apologized to her fans but said she had to put her career first.

‘I’ve also been thinking about what’s smartest financially, because I’ve worked so hard in my career.

‘So I won’t be continuing with Skaines The Label, I’m so sorry to anyone this may be disappointing… but I just can’t do it all.’

Ms Skaines admitted she was “scared” to talk to her employees about the shock decision, but said her employees “took it well” and she is pleased with the way they left things.

Skaines the Label is not the first Australian brand to go bust. A small business owner on the brink of bankruptcy previously told how she was left speechless after an influencer paid nearly $100,000 to promote her brand.

The anonymous content creator asked Prilla Bowen for $82,000 for a TikTok in which she would promote products from her swimwear brand Prilla Collective.

She joked that she nearly fell off her “fucking chair” when she received the quote after reaching out to several influencers.

“I knew I was going to take my chance with this last one, but I felt so uncomfortable saying I have a small budget, so I just said, ‘Yes, send me your prices,’” she said.

‘No hate, I know this is people’s work, but I had no idea how much money influencers make.

“I’m not going to do that myself in my own swimwear company, let alone give it to an influencer. That’s really too ambitious.”

The influencer charged Ms. Bowen $53,180 for an Instagram feed post, $60,000 for an Instagram reel and $33,490 for a five-frame Instagram story.

A TikTok video highlighting the brand costs $83,580, while a post not highlighting the swimwear costs $48,630.

Ms Bowen contacted two other influencers hoping they would be cheaper, but she couldn’t afford their rates.
