Footage emerges of taekwondo instructor on the night he allegedly murdered an entire family

Images have emerged of a car believed to have been driven by a western Sydney taekwondo instructor on the night he allegedly murdered a young family.

Police charged Kwang Kyung Yoo, 49, on Wednesday evening with the alleged triple murder of Min Cho, 41, her husband Steven, 39, and their seven-year-old boy.

He remains at Westmead Hospital under police guard and with a bedside hearing scheduled for Thursday.

The charges were filed nearly 48 hours after Yoo showed up at the hospital Monday night with visible stab wounds to his chest, arms and stomach that he said were the result of an incident in a supermarket parking lot.

Police will allege he strangled Ms Cho and the boy at his taekwondo center in North Parramatta after classes ended on Monday night, before getting into her car and fatally stabbing her estranged husband at the couple’s Baulkham Hills home.

Police on Wednesday released the description of a white BMW X5 SUV they believe the 49-year-old was driving.

CCTV footage showed the white SUV crashing through a traffic light while driving along a western Sydney road at night.

On the same day, parents at Yoo’s taekwondo studio said the instructor had cheered on the students hours before the alleged attacks.

The allegations were detailed earlier on Wednesday by homicide detectives who were set to charge the taekwondo instructor over the “harrowing” killings of the Korean-Australian family on Monday night.

“This was a loving family,” Superintendent Danny Doherty told reporters.

Yoo underwent surgery and was arrested after the bodies were discovered on Tuesday.

The child regularly went to the taekwondo studio for lessons.

“We are still trying to establish what other connections or what other relationships may or may not have existed,” he said, describing Tuesday’s discoveries as a “tragic turn of events”, Det Supt Doherty said.

‘Three people from one family, it’s devastating.

Det Supt Doherty sought further assistance from the public and on Monday evening encouraged anyone near the taekwondo studio who may have seen or heard anything to contact investigators.

Anyone who has images of the BMW is also asked to contact the police on Monday evening.

Yoo’s lawyers made a brief appearance at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday when they declined to apply for bail.

The 49-year-old did not appear via video link from his hospital bed.

Police prosecutors will have to provide Yoo and his lawyers with a brief before April 16, and the case will return to court two days later.

He has not yet entered a plea.
