Table for one? Hilarious moment huge elephant decides to take a seat at a café – before marching off

The hilarious moment a huge elephant decided to take a seat and rest in a cafe near a safari camp in Africa has been caught on camera.

Simone Ruf spotted the animal resting in the camp in Zambia and quickly snapped a photo of the animal, which can weigh up to three tons.

But it seems the male elephant wasn't very pleased with the service provided, as he soon marched back into the wild – but not before breaking one of the spokes of the parasol on his quick exit.

Ms Ruf spotted the hilarious moment at the Flatdogs Camp in South Luangwa National Park, where she works.

'First the Elephant bull moved the umbrella around and then decided to sit on the table,” she told the newspaper Daily Express. 'It looked like he wanted to use the table as a seat.

'I I think he was mostly just naughty.

'No one else saw it, I was alone. “I couldn't believe what I saw,” she added.

Elephants are regularly spotted in the national park – a world-famous nature reserve known simply as 'the South Park' by locals.

In addition to herds of elephants, it is also home to large populations of Thornicroft giraffes and African buffalos, sometimes several hundred strong.

Originally established as a game reserve in 1938, it is now one of the best known national parks in Africa, famous for its walking safaris and with a distance of 9,050 km.

But although the elephant population is well protected from poachers, the elephant population has been under severe pressure throughout history.

It comes after the Natural History Museum London issued an invitation to the public vote for their favorite image highlighting important wildlife stories from around the world to win this year's People's Choice Award.

The funny and sometimes moving 25 images in the shortlist include two lionesses nursing a cub, a fox finding a home in a London tank, moon jellyfish glowing under the Northern Lights and a dragonfly landing on a turtle's nose.
