T.J. Holmes admits he feared being viewed ‘as a Black man beating up on a white woman’ in THAT very emotional podcast episode with lover Amy Robach
Just one day after confirming they’re still together following an emotional podcast episode, TJ Holmes and Amy Robach are opening up.
Holmes, 46, and Robach, 50, aired an episode of their Amy and TJ podcast on Tuesday, featuring an on-air argument that left some wondering if they had broken up, although they had not.
The couple got into a heated argument about their communication issues and admitted that they were not in a good place, and that filming the episode was actually a “surprise” for their team.
They released another new episode of their podcast on Thursday, where they opened up about why Holmes was hesitant to release the episode in the first place.
Holmes admitted that he didn’t want to be seen as “a black man beating up a white woman” in the episode.

Holmes asked Robach to explain why he was hesitant to release the episode, as she began, “When you make someone cry, it creates a certain dynamic where people feel like they have to come to my rescue, rather than there to actually look at it from a more balanced perspective.’
‘I think tears can seem manipulative; That wasn’t my intention, but it could have come across that way. And I just think the concern was that it wouldn’t be something that people could listen to objectively,” she added.
Holmes admitted that Robach was “very careful” in her explanation, admitting: “I don’t want to put this out there because this, I’m afraid, will be seen as a black man beating up a white woman.”
“If anyone took the time and listened to that podcast, obviously I wasn’t yelling, screaming, I wasn’t doing anything,” he continued.
Robach added, “That would never have crossed my mind. Race, the fact that you are black and I am white, would never have crossed my mind and that is exactly what you mean.”
“You have to think about things that I don’t think about, and honestly it took me a second to really figure it out,” she admitted.
He added, “I know I can only put so much bass in my voice, I know I can only wave my hands so much. There is only so much exercise I can put into my body,” referring to his past interactions with white colleagues.
The improvised episode called This Ain’t Right was unplanned, with Holmes surprising Robach in their living room to talk about their problems.

The couple took to Instagram on Wednesday and shared a video of them taking a walk in New York City.
“Despite what you’ve heard, we’re still together. We’ll hear from many of you all on our latest episode of the podcast,” Holmes said.
“It was something we really struggled with and debated about whether or not we should put it out there – but at this point I’m glad we did,” he added.
The Amy and TJ podcast airs on the iHeartRadio podcast network.
