- Sexually explicit exhibit slammed
- Patron says it’s “indoctrination.”
A popular child-friendly museum has been criticized for allowing a sexually explicit exhibition alongside child-friendly activities.
A shocked shopper came across the racy exhibit while visiting Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum and uploaded a video to social media documenting his shock.
‘This is SHOCKING. Discover what is forced on children in our museums. Every parent in Australia needs to see this,” reads a caption on the video.
The exhibition, titled Absolutely Queer, is described on the museum’s website as “celebrating contemporary queer creativity for Sydney WorldPride 2023.”
The exhibition runs until the end of the year and includes cardboard cutouts of scantily clad men and women and genital decorations.

The author of the video, Sam, said he was asked by a friend who was planning a visit to Sydney to look for kid-friendly things for his family to do.
He pointed to an events website that described the museum as an “affordable attraction” that is “educational” and packed with “interactive activities” for children.
In the video, Sam shows viewers around an exhibition of an old train in the museum.
“The kids are going to love this,” he said.
But then the camera turns to show a cardboard cutout of a woman dressed in a skimpy black leather outfit.
The camera then moves into the room where the queer exhibit is housed and comes across another cardboard cutout of a man with his buttocks exposed.
“What the hell,” you hear Sam say.
The camera then shows a screen in the exhibition on which a woman speaks about different sexual orientations.
“I have a lot of sexual perversions myself, I’m not a prude,” Sam said.
‘But I don’t need a long-term exhibition in the museum, designed to ram it down the throats of children.

“This is right at the entrance next to the train and there are kids running by while I was filming this.”
In the video you see children running past the screen.
“This should be about science, but instead it’s a bunch of sexual innuendo injected into children’s heads under the guise of science,” he says.
“They mix really interesting and educational things with indoctrination and ideology and different forms of progressive activism that are forced on your children.”

“Complete your indoctrination in the gift shop,” he said.
Social media users are criticizing the placement of the exhibition.
“My son took his little girl because she loves museums… 6 years old, and he didn’t realize what was around the corner… and she had already walked in,” one person said.
“He said she was actually scared and he had to pick her up and leave.”
Another added: “It’s to be expected now. I will no longer bring my children to these facilities.”
