A naked man was captured on CCTV wandering stark naked through one of Australia's swankiest suburbs after breaking into a house.

NSW Police have released images of a man wandering down the middle of Patrick Street in North Willoughby on Sydney's North Shore at 3.30am on Thursday.

The man, who is white in appearance and about 160cm tall, had just broken into a house completely naked and woke up the resident inside.

CCTV captured the man, who is white in appearance and around 160cm tall, walking around the middle of Patrick Street in North Willoughby (pictured) at 3.30am on Thursday.

Detectives in the area have launched an investigation to identify the man and find out what he was doing

“Police were advised that a naked man had entered a local resident's home and woke them up before leaving the location,” NSW Police said.

“While investigations continue, police have released the description of a man who was seen in the area at the time of the incident.”

The perpetrator is said to have a medium build with short dark hair.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen a man matching this description or who may have additional CCTV footage from the night.
