Bondi Junction Westfield stabbing: Sky News reporter remembers murdered mother Ash Good

A Sky News reporter has fought back tears as he remembered a mother who was stabbed to death along with five others in a horrific and random attack.

Laura Jayes, 40, was visibly distraught during her living cross from Bondi Junction’s Westfield, in Sydney’s east, while reporting on the death of much-loved osteopath Ash Good, 38.

Dr. Good was one of six innocent shoppers fatally stabbed by a knifeman, 40, at the busy shopping center on Saturday afternoon in an attack that has rocked the country.

Dr.’s nine-month-old baby Good was also stabbed and is in hospital after surgery.

The mother had desperately handed her baby over to a bystander in an attempt to save her.

Jayes said that while she did not know the five other victims, she did know Dr. Good, who was a “beautiful woman” in the prime of her life.

“She has a wonderful circle of friends, she was an incredible athlete and she had the world at her feet,” Jayes, whose eyes appeared to be red, told host Peter Stefanovic.

Dr. Good succumbed to her injuries in hospital on Saturday evening.

“Her family rushed here, so many family and friends wanted to be at the hospital this afternoon, they had to take turns going in and out of the waiting room,” said Jayes, a mother of two. .

‘They both (Dr. Good and her child) went into surgery, with her husband not knowing if either of them had survived and now the worst possible news.

‘I just can’t really get my head around it. It’s just so cruel.’

Jayes added that Dr. Good was an “incredibly smart” woman whose life was “snatched away” in seconds.

The mall nightmare ended when a lone policewoman tracked him down and shot him dead on the fifth floor of the complex.

Dr. Good and her baby were reportedly among the first victims of the attack, prompting others to immediately come to her aid.

Desperate, she threw her baby to a stranger in an attempt to save her, who then used clothing from a nearby store to stem her bleeding.

Jayes struggled to understand that a new mother was in the position of handing over her newborn baby to someone she didn’t know.

“When you have a new baby… you’re with that baby all the time and when she… I can’t imagine handing over the most precious thing of her life,” the reporter said.

“It’s hard to know what to say in these circumstances because you want to get it across and do justice to her life and you want her baby to know one day what an incredible mother she was, but at the same time I don’t want to hurt the family betray. trust and privacy of her family right now, but I can’t even imagine what they’re going through.”

A bystander carrying Dr.’s baby Good said he saw that both the mother and child had been stabbed.

“The mother came up to me with the baby and threw it at me,” the man told Nine News.

“I just helped by holding the baby… and trying to compress the baby.”

The man and his brother stayed with the mother and called emergency services.

“(It was) really bad… a lot of blood on the floor… I hope the baby is okay,” the other brother said.

Just hours before the horror unfolded, Dr. Good posted a photo on Instagram with her baby in her arms.

The photo was compared to another photo from when she was pregnant.

“Just because I walked by and happened to wear the same thing for 9 months vs. 9 months inside, etc,” the caption read.

Eight people are still fighting for life in hospital after the attack.

NSW police believe the man acted alone and was known to police.

There is no lasting danger to the community.
