Sydney University Legionnaires’ disease outbreak: Urgent warning issued for uni campus after three people came down sick with bacterial disease located on site

An urgent health alert has been issued as three people were hospitalized when a serious bacterial illness was discovered on a university campus.

Two men in their 60s and one woman in her 70s were diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease after separately visiting locations around Victoria Park in Camperdown, including the University of Sydney campus.

NSW Health issued the alert on Friday urging anyone who has visited these areas in the past ten days to monitor for symptoms such as fever, chills, cough and shortness of breath.

Tests have revealed low levels of Legionella bacteria in one cooling tower on the university campus, which has now been decontaminated.

NSW Health has ordered others in the area to be disinfected.
