Sydney’s rail network has been thrown into chaos after a woman was trapped under a train.
The woman, aged around 50, is believed to have fallen onto the tracks at Punchbowl train station in Sydney’s south-west on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency services rushed to the station, where NSW Fire and Rescue workers attempted to pull the woman from under the train.

She was immediately transferred to an ambulance and taken to St. George’s Hospital at approximately 4:45 p.m.
There is chaos on commuter trains and Sydney Train passengers are being warned of possible delays.
Images from Central Station show large groups of people waiting for trains, which move slowly on the T3 Bankstown line.
‘Service disruption – Please allow extra travel time due to an incident which required emergency services to be called earlier at Punchbowl,’ warning signs read.
Commuters travelling to Punchbowl must use the all-top services to Revesby, several services have been cancelled as a result.

The incident also has consequences for other train lines: both T8 and T3 are running outside the timetable and changing platforms.
Sydney Trains announced on social media that replacement buses were being arranged.
Sydney Trains said delays were expected and replacement buses were being used on parts of the route.
“Please allow extra travel time due to an incident requiring emergency services at Punchbowl,” the statement said.
‘A limited number of buses are running in both directions to replace trains between Bankstown and Campsie due to an incident requiring emergency services in Punchbowl.’
