Sydney trains: Commuter chaos as network plunges into mayhem during peak hour after person ended up on the tracks

  • Individual spotted ‘near the tracks’ at Burwood

Commuters in Sydney faced lengthy delays on Monday evening after a person near the tracks in the city’s west threw the train network into chaos.

The person was spotted near the tracks at Burwood, leading to lengthy delays on both the North Shore and Western lines as hundreds of thousands of people tried to get home.

It is understood police attended and the person was removed from the area around 3pm.

However, the network was forced to halt train services and delays were still felt during rush hour.

Huge crowds of frustrated commuters could be seen at Wynyard Station in the city’s CBD waiting for updates.

“Please allow plenty of extra travel time due to a person near the track at Burwood earlier,” T1 Sydney trains posted on X.

Social media users were quick to express their frustration over the robberies.

“How can one person near the tracks cause chaos across the entire system for hours?” one asked.
