Passengers have been warned to expect long delays on train services after more than a dozen services were canceled due to a strike by state rail unions.
Up to eighteen train services were cancelled, affecting around 360 journeys and causing delays of up to 40 minutes on Saturday.
Commuters planning to catch the train to the Randwick races, Carols in the Domain and Big Bash cricket have been told to expect major delays and cancellations.
On the T1 North Shore line, half of the twelve services from Hornsby were canceled between 10am and 1pm.

Services are still running, but last-minute cancellations and gaps in timetables are expected to increase journey times.

“I’m very concerned,” she said Friday.
‘Every year we control New Year’s Eve on the basis that 250,000 people can enter the city and then leave the city safely.
‘Leaving the city is based on access to transport, including trains.
‘And if there are no trains available and people cannot leave the city, I am very concerned about the risk posed to the public as families cannot get home and become stuck in the city with no way out.
‘I do not rule out recommending the government to cancel the fireworks. It’s that serious.’
The major update comes after the Federal Court rejected the NSW government’s technical argument to invalidate the industrial action on Thursday afternoon.
