Sydney Sweeney was determined to ‘push the boundaries’ in Immaculate.
The 26-year-old star leads the cast of the new psychological horror film as Cecilia and had no problem taking risks in the film’s gripping final scenes.
“I love finding places I didn’t know I could unlock – pushing the limits and boundaries of what people expect of me,” Sydney shared Variety.
‘I wish I had a formal answer to how I did it. But every time a director mentions “action,” it’s like a switch.
“And I make all of Sydney’s thoughts, feelings and emotions disappear. And I am now whatever character I’m playing – I’m Cecilia right now.

“I love finding places I didn’t know I could unlock – pushing the limits and boundaries of what people expect from me,” Sydney told Variety
‘I don’t like rehearsing; I don’t plan what’s going to happen. What you saw (in the final moments of the film) was the first shot.”
The Madame Web actress always wanted to be in a horror film and embraced the “emotional trauma” her character in the picture goes through.
Sydney said: “I always want to do something new. I don’t want to do the same thing over and over again. It’s very much about the appeal, exploring characters – I love Cecilia’s journey, and I loved the emotional trauma she goes through.
“And being in the horror genre is fun because there are no limitations or boundaries in that genre. I always find it so funny when people pick apart the lines of a horror movie or its stories. I’m like, ‘It’s a horror movie. You’re just having fun.’ It’s not a movie for the Oscars; you know it going into it.
“We want to create something good, but it’s fun to have characters who can go to such extreme, absurd places, and people don’t question it.”
Sweeney feels like she has no control over the public’s perception of her body when it comes to her films.
“I wish I had a formal answer to how I did it. But every time a director mentions “action,” it’s like a switch. And I let all of Sydney’s thoughts, feelings and emotions disappear. And I am now whatever character I’m playing – I’m Cecilia right now,” she explained
The 26-year-old actress has had quite a bit of success this year, but said in an interview on Monday that some are focusing on her body and not her acting.
She said Variety that she is aware of what people say about her: ‘I see it and I can’t allow myself a reaction, I don’t know how to explain it – I’m still trying to figure it out for myself.
‘People feel connected and free to talk about me in any way they want, because they believe that I have signed my life away. That I am no longer on a human level, because I am an actor.’
‘That these characters are for everyone, but me as Sydney is no longer for me. It’s this weird relationship that people have with me that I have no control over and no say in,” she finished.”
However, the focus on her body was most noticeable when she appeared on Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago.
In her monologue she started by saying: ‘People only see me as the girl on TV who screams, cries and has sex.’
The star believes that she has been typecast at this point in her career because of her body type.
During part of the segment, she showed a PowerPoint outlining her strategy for making it big in show business – with the caption “show breasts.”
In another part of the comedy sketch, she played a Hooters waitress, in which she wore a super low-cut white shirt that showed off her chest as she served a table of men.
After the release of Everyone But You, Sweeney cleverly played with one rumor that she and co-star Glen Powell were romantically linked. At one point during the episode, she made an attempt to refute the idea.
When Powell asked for the camera to go to her fiancé, who worked with her on the film, he found himself in the frame and awkwardly robbed the audience.
The actress also addressed the daily direct messages she receives on social media, claiming that they are “not a safe space.”
Ultimately, she has kept her feelings separate from her work, because she realizes that it works for herself, and not for the audience.

Since 2022, Sweeney has been engaged to Chicago businessman Jonathan Davino, who supports her in her acting activities.
The couple was first linked in 2018 when they attended Hulu’s 2018 Emmy Party and a Kate Spade dinner together.
“Everyone is always so curious about who I’m with and what it’s like, but I think it’s important to have something going for me,” she said Glamor Britain.
