Sydney socialite and Instagram star pattipinkcake forced to delete her bizarre post mixing a tribute to Westfield Bondi Junction victims with an outfit check

An Australian Instagram star has been criticized by social media users and forced to delete a post after abruptly switching to an outfit check for her fans as she paid tribute to the victims of Westfield Bondi Junction.

Sydney woman Patricia Lyden, known on social media as pattipinkcake, gained a cult following on Instagram after sharing daily videos of her outfits.

The former legal aid lawyer often shares a video describing the many designer items she wears just before she steps out the door of her Double Bay home.

Patti on Monday shared a tribute to the innocent shoppers who were killed and injured in the horror stabbing attack at Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday.

“Sydney and Australia suffered an unspeakable tragedy at Bondi Junction on Saturday,” Patti told her followers.

“My sincere condolences and condolences to the family and friends of those who lost their lives and my wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured. I know this will take years both physically and mentally.’

In the now-deleted video, Patti’s tribute abruptly changes to offering an outfit check with a smile.

“Now I have to go out and I chose to wear this,” Patti said.

‘It’s the great seasonal jacket from Max Mara, I don’t know what I would do without it, it’s great. Ralph Lauren teddy bear t-shirt – something cheerful.

‘It looks like I’m going on safari, but I’ll probably just go to Woolworths and that could be a safari in itself. So have a nice day, and I’ll see you soon.’

Social media users criticized Patti for the video, with many claiming the post was “inappropriate” and did not take into account the feelings of the victims.

“No problem with her condolences, no problem with fashion tips, but to tie them together – wow!”, one person commented.

‘She doesn’t have feelings for other people? No compassion for the victims? Doesn’t she realize the inappropriateness of her actions? Does she have no shame?’ another wrote.

In the now-deleted video, Patti paid tribute to the six people who were killed and injured during the attack, before quickly moving on to her outfit check.

Some social media users were in disbelief at the blasé way Patti quickly switched topics from paying tribute to the stabbing victims to offering designer goods.

“The ‘sorry for your inevitable PTSD’ to the ‘look at my Ralph Lauren teddy bear T-shirt’ was so seamless. That’s a professional,” one person wrote.

“That might be the smoothest ‘anyway, keep going…’ I’ve ever seen,” a second commented.

A third joked: ‘I also prefer this bag when visiting mass murder sites. But I do think Lauren’s outfit is a bit… yesterday.’

Others were outraged by Patti’s reference to Woolworths as ‘a safari’, especially after the tragic events that unfolded at Westfield Bondi Junction.

‘That could be a safari in itself’… Is that some kind of twisted reference to what can happen in shopping centres? One word: terrible,” one person wrote.

Another person added: ‘Going to Woolworths can be like a safari. Literally after we talked about murders in a mall.”

Some defended Patti, claiming the Instagram star was “harmless” and that her video was “no big deal.”

“Patti is harmless, okay, she bruised, she’s not a terrible person overall,” one person wrote.

“Oh, leave her alone, she’s cute. Really upset about the Westfield tragedy, but she also loves her fashion, with cute self-mockery and humor!,” wrote a second.

A third added: ‘I don’t understand the big deal – she has an insta account where she describes her lifestyle. So?’

Patti has amassed over 49,000 followers on Instagram for her short daily videos.

In each video, she speaks in a low, soothing voice and mentions the brands she wears.

Ny Breaking Australia has contacted Ms Lyden for comment.

It comes after six innocent people – five women and one man – were fatally stabbed and others injured in a horror attack at Westfield Bondi Junction about 3.20pm on Saturday.

The knifeman, Joel Cauchi, 40, was seen walking around the center wielding a 12-inch hunting knife and stabbing random shoppers.

Twelve others – including a nine-month-old baby – were seriously injured before NSW Police Inspector Amy Scott single-handedly confronted Cauchi and shot him dead.
