A pet owner has been shot at by animal lovers after she was caught walking her scared cat along a dog beach.

The woman can be seen in footage walking her cat on a harness and retractable leash on a dog beach in Rose Bay in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Her cat appears frozen with fear next to a young pup on a leash, as allowed on the popular beach.

A Reddit user shared the video online, warning dog owners in the area to watch out for the woman and her cat in case it leads to a horrific tragedy.

“There is a woman who has her terrified cat on a harness and a retractable leash walking (dragging) on the beach, sometimes they hang in the trees by the water fountain/main entrance,” the user wrote.

“If your dog has a prey drive or hates kitties, you may want to stay vigilant.”

He then hit the woman for her carelessness and said it was “neglectful to the poor cat” and “dishonest” to dog owners who walk their pups on the beach and “only expect to encounter other stray dogs and people’.

“Not to mention the potential consequences for the puppies if something were to happen,” she added.

The user described the clip they attached as a “short, discreet and rather crappy video of a sad cat on the beach.”

Other Reddit users also criticized the cat owner for being dangerously irresponsible.

“Why the hell would you go to a dog park by car?” said one.

“I can’t imagine being so cruel and irresponsible. The poor cat!’

A second user commented, “It sounds like the cat is being put in a situation that makes it very upset, which is a form of animal cruelty, if the situation is completely avoidable by the owner.”

‘Cats don’t like to be put in unfamiliar territory. The need is unbelievably bad for their hearts.’

“Taking a cat to an off-leash park seems bizarre,” wrote another.

Most respondents suggested that the woman should report walking her cat on a dog beach, others also disagreed that the cat was on a leash.

Taking her cat to a dog beach? F**k sure it’s worth mentioning, what kind of psycho thinks that’s acceptable?’ said one user.

“Call the rangers, she endangers both cats and dogs with her actions,” commented another.

A third added: ‘Is there a way to report the woman to RSPCA? As a cat owner, it breaks my heart to hear of someone putting their cat in an immediate situation of need.”
