An angry local resident has taken to social media to attack a contractor who was caught mowing a strip of grass in the evening.
The resident who lives on Sydney’s Northern Beaches shared footage of a man using a ride-on mower to mow a nature strip on the north side of Mona Vale Road late on Tuesday evening.
“So it’s now okay to mow the lawns at 10:10 on Tuesday evenings?” he captioned the Facebook post.
“Some of us have to get up at five o’clock.”
According to the Northern Beaches Council website, noise from power tools and equipment is not permitted between 8pm and 7am Monday to Saturday.
A council spokesperson said the mower appeared to be on a medium lane managed by Transport for NSW (TfNSW).
“The council carries out all mowing work between 7am and 5pm,” the spokesperson added.
‘If residents experience noise nuisance in their neighborhood, the municipality invites residents to file a complaint directly with Customer Service.’
Many social media users agreed that it was never acceptable to mow the lawn this late, especially on a weeknight.
“Excessive noise restrictions have been imposed… file a complaint with your local council,” one woman wrote.
Footage of a man using a ride-on mower on the north side of Mona Vale Road was shared online at around 10pm on Tuesday.
‘Completely illegal! You called the police, right?’ asked a second.
“That’s ridiculous,” one person posted.
“That’s a fair complaint,” another added.
Others were a little milder, suggesting the man may have had a reason for mowing so late.
“If you drive along the main roads at night you will see them mowing at that time,” said a local resident.
“There are parts that make it difficult during the day, so they don’t have a choice.”
