Extraordinary moment neighbourhood feud reaches boiling point as man makes unbelievable threat with a garden tool
A neighborhood dispute over a fence line turned violent when one disgruntled resident allegedly threatened the other with a circular saw.
Garnet Mae, a 52-year-old director, filmed an extraordinary conversation between him and his 63-year-old neighbor on their Redfern terraces in Sydney’s south last Tuesday.
Owning a back alley has been a source of ongoing tension since Mr. Mae came to the department five years ago.
While he and his brother own most of the avenue, they had given up asking the elderly neighbor not to plant greenery in the space.
“It started off quite civilly and then obviously deteriorated,” Mae told Daily Mail Australia.
“He seemed very rude and almost bullying all the time, because that’s a common street.”
Tensions between residents reached a boiling point when the elderly neighbor reportedly blocked access to Mr Mae’s bin with a temporary fence.
Mr. Mae then filmed himself moving the fencing and began cutting down a rose bush on his property with his circular saw.

The neighbors had been involved in a battle over their shared fence for years
Shocking footage showed the neighbor approaching Mr Mae before shouting: ‘I’ll take your f***ing head off’ before allegedly taking the electric saw from him.
Mr. Mae remained calm as the neighbor allegedly pushed him around the outdoor area and struggled with the saw.
“Get your hands off that damn building or I’ll arrest you,” the neighbor shouted. ‘You have no right, you have no right here.
“Let’s turn the damn thing (saw) on.”
Mr. Mae then said to the neighbor, “That’s enough.”
“That’s not enough,” the 63-year-old shouted back. “Good job, buddy.”

Police did not arrest the neighbor, but confirmed he was later charged with common assault
The neighbor slammed Mr. Mae against a wall with one hand and held the saw in his other hand, yelling “get off my damn spot.”
When Mr. Mae warned the neighbor that he was being filmed, the angry man shot back, “I don’t care what the camera says.”
“Get off my damn property,” he said. “You’re an idiot, you don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Officers from the South Sydney Police Area Command were called to the scene and interviewed Mr Mae and the neighbour.
NSW Police confirmed officers had charged Mae’s 63-year-old neighbor with common assault.
Mr Mae felt the officers were “frustrated” and did not attempt to temporarily remove the neighbor to de-escalate the situation after the alleged attack.
“You know, if the situation was reversed, they wouldn’t mind throwing me in jail,” he said.
“I didn’t suffer any serious injuries, but no one deserves to (allegedly) be physically attacked when they try to gain access to their own property, which someone has been trying to squirrel away for years.”
The neighbor is due to appear at Downing Center Local Court on January 13, 2025.
