Sydney mother receives parking fine from Revenue NSW while giving birth
A mother has recalled her shock when she was given a parking fine for going over the time limit by several minutes while she was in labour.
The $120 fine was addressed to Greg Earl, who had driven his wife Carly to a Sydney hospital to give birth to their daughter Hazel.
After disputing the fine, the Marrickville couple received a letter back from Revenue NSW stating the fine would not be cancelled.
‘We thought it was laughable. We thought there was absolutely no way that a disputed fine for someone undergoing childbirth would ever be dismissed,” Carly told 9News.
“There’s not a person on this planet whose partner I can imagine would excuse themselves from moving their car in that situation.”

The couple received a rude shock when they received the fine in the mail weeks after Mrs Earl gave birth.
They asked for the fine to be waived, but the plea fell on deaf ears.
“We acknowledge your comments that your wife was in labor and you were unable to leave to pay for additional parking, but we cannot cancel the fine,” Revenue NSW told them.
At the exact time the inspector issued the fine, Ms. Earl says she was in late labor or had just given birth.
“There’s not a person on this planet who could imagine their partner excusing themselves to move their car in that situation,” she said.
Weeks after settling their new daughter Hazel (pictured) at home, they received a letter from Revenue NSW informing them of the fine
The couple have since received a voicemail from Revenue NSW apologizing for the saga and saying the fine would be waived.
While the drama surrounding the fine unfolded, Hazel settled into her new home.
Despite some scary moments in the hospital when her heart rate dropped, Carly said the newborn is now doing well.
“There were a few moments where it was a bit scary, her heart rate dropped, there are certain elements of labor that are unpredictable.”
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Revenue NSW for comment.
