Sydney metro train shuts down leaving hundreds of passengers stranded

Hundreds of subway passengers have been left sitting in pitch darkness with no air conditioning after their train shut down.

The travelers were stranded for more than an hour in Norwest, north-west of Sydney, on Monday morning.

The lights in the carriages went out, forcing passengers to sit in complete darkness and causing some to suffer from panic attacks.

The air conditioning was also turned off with temperatures set to reach a blistering 30C later in the day.

‘Locked in the @Sydneymetro for the last 50 minutes and now they’ve turned out the lights. Great job,’ wrote one on Twitter.

Another person added: “We have been stuck on the train at Norwest for over an hour. Lights off and no air conditioning.

‘Could we have a clear message about when we could go out?’

Sydney Metro announced on its Twitter page that commuters should expect delays.

“The Metro is experiencing increasing wait times this morning,” he wrote.

‘Listen to station announcements and message display boards for the latest information. We apologize for any inconvenience.’

The announcement has sparked a backlash from frustrated passengers.

‘Closed all weekend for maintenance, and this happens first thing on Monday!’ one wrote.

‘An ETA would be good. We can determine if we want to wait or look for other transportation. Is this a 15 minute delay, 30 or more? he wrote a second.
