A second heatwave in as many weeks is about to hit Australia, with much of the country set to experience sweltering temperatures this weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued heatwave warnings for large parts of NSW, Queensland, NT and WA.
Weather Zone meteorologist James Rout told Ny Breaking Australia that “it looks like Saturday will see the hottest temperatures lasting into Sunday.”
“On the east coast, the main areas affected will be south-east Queensland and north-east NSW,” Rout said.
“Sydney will be warm today, especially in the west of the city where temperatures could reach 30 degrees this afternoon, but there should be a southerly change around 9pm this evening, bringing cool temperatures.”
A heatwave will hit much of Australia from Thursday with temperatures in the high 30s for much of the east coast, while in WA temperatures will reach 45 degrees Celsius in some places over the weekend.
According to Weatherzone, temperatures will reach the mid to high 30s this weekend across much of south-east Queensland and north-east NSW, while in a few places such as Ipswich, west of Brisbane, temperatures are likely to reach 40 degrees Celsius.
“Overnight temperatures should also remain quite warm, especially towards the coast, so Brisbane will have warm and sticky nights.”
Tropical Cyclone Jasper has hit the state's north, leaving areas around Cairns lashed by gusty winds and heavy rain since Wednesday.
More than 17,000 homes and businesses were without electricity Wednesday evening and flash flooding remains a concern.
The Category 2 cyclone should have passed by Thursday afternoon, with clean-up efforts planned for the weekend.

The weather this weekend looks to be sultry and many will likely take to the water to cool off as temperatures hover around 40 degrees Celsius
Mr Rout said the heatwave will be in full swing in WA and NT, with “many places reaching the mid-40s on Friday and the heat spreading over the weekend.”
“Half the state will be between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday, although it will be mainly inland and not too focused on Perth.”
The WA capital should see temperatures in the low 30s this weekend, while inland areas could reach as high as 40 degrees Celsius.”
'In the afternoon there should be a sea breeze blowing over the city to cool things down a bit.'
Mr Rout said Melbourne and Adelaide should avoid the hot weather and heatwave temperatures should ease from Monday so next week will be more comfortable for the rest of the country.
On Thursday, Sydney will see high temperatures in the afternoon, especially in the city's west, while the state's northeast will see the full impact of the heatwave.
