Week-long heat wave about to hit Australia with temperatures in one city soaring to 40°C – this is the forecast for your area

Large parts of Australia will swelter during a seven-day heatwave this week, with temperatures in one state expected to climb to 40 degrees.
South Australia will experience its first major heatwave since 2019 this week after forecasters warned of “unprecedented challenging extreme heat”.
Adelaide will reach temperatures of 35°C on Monday, 36°C on Tuesday and 38°C on Wednesday, with Thursday and Friday expected to reach 40°C.
The city last recorded such extreme temperatures in December 2019, when residents sweltered for several days in 42°C.
Other parts of the country are also forecast to be sweltering this week, with temperatures reaching 30C in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Darwin and Queensland.

Forecasters say the nights will remain sticky, with lows only dipping to 24°C on Wednesday and 27°C on Thursday.
Adelaide residents have been advised not to go out in the sun and to keep children and babies indoors during the hottest hours of the day.
The heat wave will also bring elevated wildfire risks to the state.
On Thursday, 16 properties were engulfed and destroyed by a bushfire in Port Lincoln in southern SA.
While the fire was contained overnight, warnings were issued about potentially dangerous smoke caused by the fire, which started at the city’s landfill.
After hitting highs of 30C over the weekend, Sydney will enjoy temperatures in the 20C for the next seven days.
Possible showers are expected Tuesday through Thursday in Harbor City.
Perth is expected to reach 36°C on Monday, 31°C on Tuesday, 29°C on Wednesday, 26°C on Thursday and 27°C on Friday. Temperatures will soar over the weekend, with 31°C on Saturday and 32°C on Sunday, with similar temperatures forecast for Darwin.

The Met Office has warned of a high fire danger in the southern and southern hinterlands of Queensland for the next few days.
Brisbane will see temperatures in the high 20s all week, hitting 30C on Tuesday and Sunday.
The ACT will endure a sweltering 34C on Monday before temperatures drop to 21C on Wednesday and 24C on Thursday.
Further south in Melbourne, the city will experience some cooler days at the start of the week before temperatures hit 36°C on Friday and Saturday.
In Hobart, temperatures will also remain in the low 20s with a chance of showers on Monday, before soaring to 35C on Friday and 33C on Saturday.
It comes after the city experienced its hottest day in two years on Friday at 36.1°C, 14°C above average.
