Hobart to Sydney flight chaos as couple are escorted off a plane by cops after alleged drunken act
An Aussie couple have been removed from a flight by police and charged after an alleged drunken incident in which a woman ‘grabbed and shook’ another passenger.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) was called for assistance after a couple allegedly caused a disturbance on their flight from Hobart to Sydney.
The man, 45, and the woman, 53, were reportedly drunk and consumed alcohol they had brought on the plane.
The woman allegedly grabbed and shook another passenger as they exited a restroom on the Dec. 29 flight.
The couple were escorted from the flight by police officers and charged with failing to comply with cabin crew safety instructions and consuming alcohol not provided by the crew.
These violations carry a maximum fine of $13,750.
The woman was also charged with assault, which carries a prison sentence of two years.
More than 400 incidents involving drunken people were recorded at major airports in Australia last year, AFP Sergeant Luke Stockwell said.

‘We urge travelers to take their behavior at airports into account this summer holiday. “You don’t want to start the new year with a significant fine or worse, behind bars,” he said.
‘Bad behavior at airports is not only disrespectful to other travelers, airport staff and airline staff, but it is also a safety risk and usually leads to more serious offences.
“The AFP is increasing patrols at all major airports over the holidays and will not tolerate dangerous, disruptive or offensive behavior from travellers,” Sergeant Stockwell said.
The couple are due to appear in Sydney’s Downing Center Local Court on Monday.
