Commuter chaos after ‘overheight vehicle’ shut Sydney Harbour Tunnel during peak hour
- ‘Overelevated vehicle’ closed the Sydney Harbor Tunnel
- Motorists were advised to ‘postpone’ their journey
Morning traffic in Sydney was thrown into chaos after a closure of the Sydney Harbor Tunnel on Thursday.
A truck over the height limit came in just before 7am and closed all southbound lanes, Live Traffic Sydney reported.
The tunnel reopened a short time later after the truck was pulled over, but traffic was already backed up in North Sydney.
Traffic was queued for about 5 miles in the Lane Cove tunnel, further north.
“If you can postpone your trip to the city, you would be wise to do so,” said 2GB presenter Ben Fordham.
Motorists were advised to use the Harbor Bridge as an alternative and allow extra travel time, and to ‘use caution and allow some extra time’ if heading for the tunnel.
