Sydney driver is slugged with massive fine for doing something every motorist has done in a car park
A driver was shocked after receiving a huge fine while waiting for another motorist to pull out of a parking space.
The driver was given a $302 parking ticket at the Hurstville Aquatic Centre in Sydney’s south on June 15.
The motorist called Revenue NSW “idiotic” after his request to appeal the fine was rejected.
A Revenue NSW spokesperson said the organisation acknowledged the circumstances that led to the fine, but that it was still “unable to cancel” the fine.
The authority stated that this was because the driver was double-parked, which is an offence.
“You can’t wait for another car to leave a parking space, because there has to be parking available immediately,” the spokesperson said. Yeah.
‘Double parking can create blind spots for drivers and pedestrians. It can also cause other drivers to drive on the other side of the road.’
The driver was then told he had to pay the $302 fine.

Although it is not known how long the driver had been double-parked, they posted about the fine online. Australians were stunned and it was considered an offence.
What made the other motorists even more shocked was the fact that the driver had remained in the car the entire time.
“Do it again. That’s ridiculous,” someone wrote.
“Absolutely ridiculous,” someone said.
Another added: ‘(There isn’t) a single person on this planet who hasn’t done this dozens of times.’
Georges River City Council, which issued the fine, defended its decision by saying there were increased patrols at the pool because “vehicles were reported parking illegally.”
“Double parking is an issue that the New South Wales State Government has identified as one that requires strong deterrence across the state,” a spokeswoman said.
‘[This is] Because it poses a safety risk to the community and obstructs traffic, a fine of more than $300 is imposed.
