Sydney domestic airport is in chaos with hundreds of frustrated travellers forced to line up in 150m queues.

Queues stretched out the door at the airport’s Jetstar, Virgin and Rex terminals on Monday morning.

Sydney Airport tweeted that the queues were caused by a significant number of security staff calling in sick.

Former ABC presenter Barrie Cassidy shared this picture of hundreds of travellers queuing outside Sydney Domestic Airport’s Virgin, Jetstar and Rex terminal on Monday

‘Our security contractor had significant staff sick leave today meaning some screening lanes couldn’t open.

‘Passengers will be brought forward according to flight priority.’

Former ABC presenter Barrie Cassidy shared a picture of hundreds of travellers lined up in kiss-and-ride zone.

‘(The) security queue at Sydney airport. 150m long as that’s just outside the terminal’.

The situation wasn’t much better inside the terminal. A Sydney Airport spokesperson said passengers with imminent flights would be brought into a priority queue

It comes after a gunman was arrested after firing three shots at Canberra Airport on Sunday.

A 63-year-old man has been charged with firearm offences and was due to fact an ACT Magistrates Court today, where prosecutors will oppose bail.
